Bookie's template is basically what I'm referring to, but there is a twist.
You (LK), Allen and Bookie are probably the only people who have consistently put out different templates for public use and this is why I grouped you three together.
Template hacks, as far as I've been around, have always been popular items with the members. I've also noticed that the majority here rather use multihacks rather than inserting and modifying the mods/hacks manually...It's convenient to have an all-in-one step install.
Now I understand first hand what it is to edit every UBB file (.pl and .cgi) manually but what I was thinking is rather different. What if the "UBB Template Themes" centered around the $TBT/$TBB tags and were controlled via CP? This template set will allow any user to insert different themes without doing much work. All they need to do is install the "Template Theme" pack which is universal to all theme applications.
For example: A user will install the "Template Theme" pack which is primarily .pl files and additional hacking (if necessary). A one time install. The pack may include a generic theme. If the user wishes to install a new them he/she can download "Graphic Themes" provided by the graphic/template designers here. The "Graphic Themes" are just the graphics that will border the $TBT/$TBB tags...No further .pl files to modify. These graphics will be added via CP. Additional graphics (e.g., buttons), within the theme, can also be applied easily since UBB already has that set up in Style Templates via CP.
I hope that I didn't make this more confusing but I think the idea is realistic and it may be something that the members will love to have. Anyway, what do you think? If you need me to clarify I'll be happy to.
