UBB Updates:
Four is a charm - Version 6.04 was released tonight, containing a few small bug fixes. It looks like the base code is pretty stable now, for those waiting to install/ modify their files. We will be adding a few useful modifications here in the coming weeks, some you haven't seen before wink

Site News:
A New Era - Besides April being the month of taxes (here in the U.S.), it is also the beginning of our shift to v6 in our monthly Member Spotlight Contest. Check here for details. Deadline for entry is the 15th.

Moderator Additions - An original founding member of our former site, Sally returns to assist us in our server-side scripting forum. Welcome back! Chuck , a relative newcomer to ubbdev, will be assisting us in our French forum and with work in the database and the installation forum. From England and France (respectively), both are welcome additions to our staff here as we endeavor to keep up with the growth in our membership.

not complaing (ok, mebbe a little), but...

how many 6.0x's are they gonna come out with? i understand the boards are a constant work in progress, and, i appreciate that they are constantly offering the upgrades for our benefit, but... gets a lil annoying, not being able to "relax" with a constant version (even for just a week!).

i know this current upgrade (to 6.04) even states that its not truly necessary for 6.03 user's, but still...

As many as it takes to solve any bugs that creep up. They alpha tested for 3 months. They public beta tested for 2 or 3 months. Some problems still stayed hidden. There's nothing you can do about that. You couldn't ask for a bigger test base then what was had.

It is impossible to write bug free software. UBB was released when it was as ready as it could be. If they still hadn't released it, people would be complaining that they should just release it already.

If they didn't patch bugs as soon as they're found, people would complain that they aren't doing anything, or concentrating on OT.

Patching ASAP is a GOOD thing. More companies should do that. And I've stated many times, and shall again... the mod/hacking community is a very small percentage of the total ubb community. Most people take the zip files, uploaded them, clear their cache, and are done with it. That's most of the userbase.

The annoyances of having to do that on modified boards are, unfortunately, the price to be paid for customing the board. That should have been understood when modding started. Also as CC has said, unless there is a security issue discovered that was patched, the minor release may not be needed by you.

But Infopop isn't going to modify their release time tables because of mod'ed boards.

Its a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation for them. Nothing will be the right solution for everyone. So, they do what makes the most business sense and is best for the majority of the userbase; Frequent updates to ensure that the users have any issues resolved as soon as they are made aware of. That IS the optimal solution.

Tu aurrais du poser cette question sur le forum Francais:

Ubb est entièrement traduit (a l'exeption du panneau de configuration)
et est disponible sur le site de INFOPOP.
