Laptop on the coffee table, VPN's to all points considered important and remote desktop sessions to all of the 2003 servers. Life is good, but one needs one other thing when working from home and has the house to him/her self...... Ozzy Osbourne Live From Budokan DVD and way too much surround sound. Hahaha, my wife would kill me if she knew how loud this place gets. I finally got my Pink Floyd Delicate Sound of Thunder VHS tape onto DVD in great form last weekend. I think that'll be next. What do all of you fun people do for relaxation during work?

Relaxing while at work isn't always easy. I've got a shelf stereo which is on all day, either playing the radio, or music off my iPod. I look forward to casual fridays where I can dump the suit and tie. Taking my shoes off always seems to lighten up the day. Although I can and occasionally do work from home, there are a lot of things that can be a distraction - especially the dog who thinks that you're home just to play with her for the day. That being said, with proper focus I can get a lot of stuff done at home, that I can't get done at work, since the phone isn't ringing off the hook, and there are no meetings tying up the day. The best for me is to work remotely while traveling. Nothing like sitting in a hotel with nothing to do but work.

When I was in Malaysia last year for the techEd event over there I was managing the network in san Diege remotely from the hotel. It was horrible, the connection was routed through Singapore and port filtered so that most of my stuff didn't work. When I got back after 3 weeks it was kaos. Kuala Lumpur was well worth it though. Music helps the day go by peacefully. I play DVDs in my office too. Very nice atmosphere and a hill out the window. This pic is my office in carlsbad california, we get to wear jeans and sweatshirts everyday if we like. It's a great job.

Having a broadband connection certainly makes the hotel room better; while their availability has improved, prices are sometimes relatively high. Then again, the same goes for WiFi hotspots. Of course nothing beat sniffing out an open network that you can jump on. I have a window in my office, but have my back to it (usually never know when it is raining/snowing/dark out), I face my computer and look out into the cubes to make sure my minions are being productive My old office had a better view, it faced the east river and the 59th st bridge. This one just faces another office bldg.

When having to travel for work I've started staying at Drury Inns - nice rooms, free hot (and good) breakfasts and evening snacks, and free hi-speed access

As long as you're not navaho, uploading bogus "Zip" files... I say go for it and enjoy the luxuries of home.

ROTFL.... I like working from home, make your own hours, etc... Downside is that Drak wants to get me another phoneline to do telephone support, at least I get DSL for free...
