Pros: faster, works better with UBB.

Cons: can't convert back to FAT32, Windows ME/DOS/etc don't support it.

Also, can I access it in the LAN if the other Windows is 98?

If you set up a share on it, yeah, it'll be just fine. I used that setup at home for quite a while.

95% of the apps out there don't care what filesystem they're on... the others are probably legacy DOS apps that wouldn't run under Win2k in the first place.

You can convert back to FAT32 if you format your hard drive.

theres no real big cons for converting to NTFS on your home PC, work PC, server, etc. Its faster, more robust and stable.

What do you mean?

I mean, it is possible to go from NTFS->FAT32, not that you'd want to wink , but in this case I'm selling this computer so I had to get it back to FAT32 to use the restore CD.

Actually you can go back,
either by; Backups, or 3rd party software like Partition Magic.

However NTFS has a lot of advantages;

Paging File System [Dont need to run Scandisk at start (or the WinXP/2K Equiv) on bad shutdown]

Enhanced Security Options [Allow certain users to stay to certain folders/files]

Better Speed [Files in Tree rather than the FAT32 conventions of largest free block]

Smaller Clusters [Less wasted space on HD [usually about 100-300mb per Gig!]

Also increased Seek speed thanks to the file tree. [a side effect of the tree mentioned above]

smile Havnt looked back yet myself, havnt used my 98 partition for over a year, thinking of deleting it smile
