rule # 1. it dosent matter what kind of community it is, if the admin is involded with posting its a better community! laugh , it helps avoid problems, and if members know the admin is there they wont try breaking the rules as much.

rule # 2. always at least in some way try to involded in the members in making rules ect. example: (yes i know its a vB and this is a ubb hack site but i run both forum scripts and dont have my ubb online right now wink ) look here , we had a flame war going before i posted that, the members are always ready to but there opition out there, if a admin post a topic about problems your ganna get a good post not a flame 99% of the time smile

rule # 3. making mods, try to have the members give there input while making mod's, mod's need to be well liked, model members, and know what to do about bad topics and members on the fly with lil admin help.

be involded and your ubb will become a better place for the members to be, remeber, a nice forum attracts more member ^_^

1) I agree, especially when the forum is starting out.

2) Yes, that should stop the problem.

3) That sometimes works, but the wrong people can be elected this way.

rule # 1. it dosent matter what kind of community it is, if the admin is involded with posting its a better community!

Only if this is done very carefully! It is too easy to cross the line where readers perceive mods/admins as too involved and micromanaging.

I would suggest that mod/admin presence is crucial via Who's Online and select "quality" posts.

rule # 2. always at least in some way try to involded in the members in making rules ect.

This has to be like the political process: make people feel as if they are involved in making the rules, but don't let them actually make the rules. wink Otherwise they cannot be managed.

rule # 3. making mods, try to have the members give there input while making mod's, mod's need to be well liked, model members, and know what to do about bad topics and members on the fly with lil admin help.

Moderators have to be respected members of the community. They need to show a level temperament, be helpful to newbies and vets alike, and IMHO not come across as arrogant pompous jerks. Letting readers select Mods = Mods who are too beholden to the readers and not responsible enough to the admin/site owner.

Thoughts?
