Has anyone here been able to use UBB on prohosting.com? I can't get it (any script for that matter) to work. I'm pretty sure it's nothing I'm doing wrong. I know the location of the perl & how to chmod everything (I've installed UBB on virtualave, hypermart, & more).

Ya, weird, that's what they say on their site, yet I always chmod to 777 and it's always worked.

well, I just got an email from prohosting at midnight stating that affective immediately (it hasn't happened yet though), they will be placing banners on everyone's pages, they said

but they said that with the money from the banners, they'll be able to "upgrade" accounts, coming soon they say will be upgraded space, 50 megs they say, front page extensions, and enhanced cgi capabilities, whatever the hell that means.

In the spring of 1999, Free.ProHosting.com surprised the free web
hosting world by declaring war against FLAB (Forced Link Advertising
Banners). We diligently proclaimed our "Anti-FLAB" stance to the world
and hoped to revolutionize our industry by truly offering an absolutely
"free" product with no strings attached. However, a year later, we have
been brought kicking & screaming back into the current reality of "free"
web hosting.

"good guys shouldn't finish last"

Effective immediately ProHosting will place an advertising banner on all
free web pages. This move was not taken without much thought &
consideration for you our valued customers. The bottom line is that we
must begin to defray the costs associated with our free service and in
doing so we will be better equipped to offer you more feature rich
services. In the near future you can look forward to:

Increased disk space (How does 50 megs sound?)
Improved CGI capabilities
Front Page extensions
Easy web page creation tools
Technical Phone Support

Frankly, while we still deeply regret having to make this change, we are
excited about the improvements we will be able to make to your "free"
service.

We sincerely appreciate your continued support & loyalty to our unique
service.

Thanks for choosing ProHosting!

Well. The banners appeared on MY bbs TODAY.

And I'm not happy. I just signed up on free prohosting, and had the BBS working perfectly with a few hacks on it.

Now that the banners are appearing, they are screwing up all the messages in my forums. Screwing up the HTML code, by the look of it.

Who, Mail and Edit icons are not appearing sometimes, but just in ONE message in a thread. Sometimes the icons are linked together, so they don't offer the correct services. Some messages are appearing in the wrong color/size text. Post New and Reply buttons are moving around the bottom of the screen, and more. Heck, I had one thread showing some raw html code!!!

I'm really pissed. Anyone else having this trouble? I sent a message to the folks at prohosting...have to see what they say.

Ya, that's happening to mine too, that's what they get for not fully testing it out before releasing it. The banner only appears on .html pages though, not on the .cgi ones.

How long does it take for it to work again?
And did every one get a 500 internal server error?

I knew about that. Still getting problems, and I get a huge blank space at the top of my HTML pages.

They sent me an email saying they were aware of the problem and that it had been resolved.

It hasn't been. My html threads are still getting screwed up. SIGH.

Well it's not good service really, all I would recommend is backing up all your files now, try and save them all and then if nothing improves then you still have a backup at the end of the day.

Try: http://www.bannerkillers.com/

Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.
