would there be a way add the ability for a user to change his MEMBER status...or / custom user title... in profile...but block the words such as ADMIN MOD MODERATOR etc... that way it adds them more options.....and a spot to turn it off/ on in CP ..that way if it becomes a problem ... admins could turn it off......

It's a very simple way of doing what you want for the most part, and requires very little coding. You can't block those words with this little hack, but you can disable/enable it by turning on or off the custom title field in the registration settings. Just manually edit the custom title of anyone who uses text you would rather they not use, and lock their profile if they continue anyway.

And take note of my addition to that topic, and my little beautification tip, so you don't have a blank line under user's names who don't use the custom title.
