I came up with a way to notify members of upcoming events thru your control panel that's seen on top of the Ultimate.cgi table. (above forum etc..) When you don't need it, it disappears!

*Special Note, this requires the use of the tag "$YourCopyrightNotice" Found in the following files:

Ultimate.cgi
Forumsdisplay.cgi
And I think ubb_library.pl
Check each one and do a search and find.
you will need to remove them from the other
scripts, and add your normal copyright info
to your footer sections via CP in general
settings.

THIS DOES NOT EFFECT THE INFOPOP COPYRIGHT TEXT/IMAGE INFO IF DONE RIGHT! [Linked Image] Make sure you backup all files, before you start.

Okay once you have removed the tag from the other scripts, find this in ultimate.cgi:

Code
code:

Edit it like this:

Code
code:

Next go into General settings in the section marked "Your Copyright Wording" and add this:
Code
code:

* The table html is needed or it will totally blow out your tables..[Linked Image]

Remember, you will need to edit out this value $YourCopyrightNotice from all the other scripts. I truly suggest to all newbies, you setup test board on your site. Then you can play to your hearts content! If you goof, no big deal!

Once the need is past and you don't need it there, just remove the html etc, from the box in your control panel..[Linked Image] You can see a demo here

( Java Ticker available Here )

Have fun!

Yo CP, that's pretty tight, if I get off my lazy butt, maybe I will test it out.

Glad you like it! I like working with what I have, not adding more code if necessary. Since most all of use add tables around the ubb, we can put our copyright text in the footer. I do have a favor to ask, how would I add values to the java applet coding, to show "Welcome AllenAyres" or whatever the members name is, and you last visited etc..
It would be slick in the ticker. a bigger plus would be to have a code in the ultimate.cgi page that checks the $YourCopyrightNotice line in UltUBB.file.
Then you could have an if then else line..

I'm working on that, if you smell smoke it's me..[Linked Image]

Allen,

Sorta kinda, Actually just giving a new use to that box in general settings!

I just checked out your demo with the ticker and it looks tight!

How hard would it be to implement this with an extra field (ie leaving the Copyright box as it is)

It would be way more work than just removing the tags. But you never know what we can come up with. I like the ease of just cutting aand pasting the applet, and html..

Thanks Pyros & Bandit for the kind words!

I tried installing this but I'm having a problem. When I go into General Settings in the CP and enter "$TheColSpan" nothing gets set. The $TableColorStrip string gets blanked out as well. What I mean by this is.. even though I enter those string in the Copyright Notice textbox, after I submit the settings and then go back into General Settings, the strings are gone. Anyone else having this problem?

Nope haven't heard of lost text in the box upon re-entry. At least not with this. Try changing the $TheColSpan to this:

colspan="5" Make the "5" whatever amount is needed. Count your columns, and include the blank one above the lightbulbs. If you change the overall setup, (display topics & posts, instead of just posts) the column count will change but your ticker table won't! thus goofing it up.

Yeah it works fine it I set it to 5 or 6. I'd like to figure out why it won't work with $TheColSpan for me, but oh well.
I was playing around and realized that it isn't too much work to added another field into General Settings that will contain the Announcement. This way you don't have to mess around with the Copyright Notice stuff.

Cool! I think general settings filters out those values. The same reason you can't add 'em to the header or footer.

I look forward to seeing your hack ..!
