Well, this took a while. I have been talking about updating it and just never got around to it... until now:

I will consider it beta until somebody else installs it and says it's ok. It worked well for me on a test board. I will install this on another board tonite.

I've successfully INSTALLED the hack, Im uploading now, We'll see if it works in 5 min...

It didn't work
I did everything you said, and I rechecked the whole lot.
I don't get an avatar selector in registration "Menu" and I don't get an option to enable/disable them in my control panel.

ok, first thing check your control panel. You should have an option in your General Settings at the bottom for avatars... if it isn't set to "yes" or "on", you won't get a drop down box to select from in your profile.

Also, make sure you upload at least one avatar...

I don't even get the option to enable avatars.
Would this happen if I didn't have any avatars uploaded?

Don't worry about the last post...
After checking each of my hacked files, I found no reference to $avatar
Turns out my braindead computer tried to save to read only files. So, therefore, EVERYTHING I had just done, was GONE!!!
Now imaging what that feels like to a person who is installing his first hack...

Just comes up with a blank screen...

I'm pretty sure it's ubbmisc at least...
It's the one that you get, when you want to register, after the coppacheck and the Agree/Disagree screen

Well I was able to get it working with 5.46 from the old instructions. I just had to use my best judgment in a few spots. So I do know that it can work but I did not document how I did it.

Oh, And I think the error is actually in register_lib.pl (I know, The extension isn't CGI, Still the same file tho.) Because I'm pretty sure that's the one that has all Registration stuff (Makes sense) If you need to debug it, Because we're not allowed to post the script files, If you want I can either mail you the TEXT inside the script, Or I can post the whole lot here, But that generally annoys people.

I installed the avatar hack last friday and it worked great.

However I noticed over the weekend more and more of my users avatars were not showing up.

I modified my own profile and I noticed my avatar selection was "previous" (it should have been harley).

Any ideas?

My board is beginnin to fill up with bad images as everytime someone modifies their profile they lose the avatar.

Your site is interesting... I really don't think Lee can kick a 300 lb bag into the ceiling tho...

I only saw one example of what you are talking about, and it appears to be a problem with that person's profile... I had that when I was trouble-shooting on a test board. You might want to try "rebuilding member data" in your cp and then updating threads.

The "previous" choice in your profile is the avatar you cose previously... you can change it to anything you want...

Thanks for the help. I should have stated I already tried that (tried it again since you suggested it!)

I have done a bit of research and it appears I've screwed up the implementation. When I went to change my own profile I lost my avatar (I was trying to duplicate what some of my readers had done) and now I can't reset it.

Here's what I have found out so far. I edited my profile and selected a different avatar. I opened my specific member file and it is being stored correctly (and I even verified the image exists by copying the url in the member file and pasting it in the browser).

However when I post my avatar (and anyone else's that has modified their profile) doesn't show up. I opened the html source and it is using for my avatar.

I suppose I have to dig through the code, but any suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated!

I found the problem, but I'm going to need some help on this one.

If you edit your profile, it stores the avatar in line 14.

Previously (version 5.45c) it was stored on my members line 15 (and this is where the code is looking for it as well).

How do I change it to store the avatar on line 15 in the memberfiles?

I found it.

My problem was in the modifybio sub.

I corrected the order and updated the threads.

Works great!

Feel free to move this hack onto the "UBB Mods Finished" or whatever it is!
I got the damn thing working!!
I inserted the last bit on the wrong "1;" line. I inserted it on the closest one, I tried again using the bottom one, and it worked Purrrfectly.
I haven't got any user avatars yet, But I'll post when I do, so you people can check out my first installed hack!

If you have other hacks added, it may be different. In a fresh 5.46 copy it looks like the above and is on line #598.

I am having a minor problem with this script but everything else seems to work fine. I probably messed something up in install but not sure. Please look at this page and you will notice that the first post is a short one and with the avatar installed the post is in the center of the table cell (top to bottom centered) http://asscar.virtualave.net/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000002.html.

I installed the new version of UBB at the same time that I installed the hack so I guess that could be the problem as well, but the post by a dummy account I created without the avatar came up just fine. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I tryed all image under username hack and everytime i couldnt find a line to replace.
Now i tryed the avatar hack and I can find the line:

$maxmemfields = 14;

in the ubb_library.pl

Can anybody help me?

Clean_Up, I didn't find the link to that thread, it was a 404, most likely what is happening, is the you now have a lot of "stuff" under the username in the left column, and when someone types a short message (one line or so) the left column info is taller than the message, so the message just centers itself in the cell...

the maxmemfields thing is line 12 in ubb_library.pl

No there is no maxmem in line 12 and nowhere else in the ubb_library.pl!

Ok, I need some help. I am a newbie, and I tried the hack. I think. It may have been a different one. Anyways, the one that I did automatically updates avatar settings or something. I tried it and it said it couldn't acess file, a problem with the server class problem. So I was wondering if someone could just send me the modded files so I can put them in place of my unhacked files. I have UBB 5.46c HELP!!!

that's against licensing rules "expert", I am pretty sure you knew that already... you have a lot more to worry about than avatars if you plan to keep running 5.46something.. you should update to 5.47e.
