A hack that will change your thread files extensions from HTML to SHTML.
The author of this hack is Digital Boy and has been added in the database.

Has anyone installed this (especially on 5.46)? I have not seen an example yet...

Thanks,
Jeremiah

Thanks Allen, I was just wondering how the different it would be because the first script it says update is active.cgi (which I don't even have) and since it is documented by line numbers only (although most if it is just searching anyway).

Thanks
Jeremiah

Question for Pyros

I have just read the Instuctions for this hack and one thing I don't understand is why would you want to or need to change the names of the HTML Directorys?

I understand the .html and html ext but the directory name will have no affect on ssi what so ever.

Just wondering

Is it true that you could just scan and replace all .html with .shtml then probably have to change all the pre-created thread extensions too? Would an update/rebuild all threads do that?

just wondering,

I have done this a couple of times on 5.47 now. I wouldn't do a global find and replace of all the files. Make sure you only replace what needs to be replaced. The directions don't completely match up for 5.47 but they are close with the exception of one or two files. Like MasterMind stated above, you don't really need to change the HTML dir to SHTML. Hope that helps

Do you think you can write up what needs to be done for version 4.7?

I'm a bit confused by the current directions....

thanks

"ditto"

My particular webserver can only use SSI if I am using SHTML pages. My current work around is parsing every page which is slow. I would much prefer them to be SHTML pages to begin with.

I hope to see a v 5.47 write up soon [Linked Image]

No one is making hacks for 5.x anymore so nope, no HTML-SHTML hack for 5.47d

You basically change all the .HTML extensions created by the UBB to .SHTML

I did this hack on 5.47d. Digital Boy's instructions only missed a couple of lines. I don't recall which ones, but here's what I did:

Open each CGI file in your editor and starting from the top, use your editor's search feature to find any occurrence of "html" (note that there is no . before the extension). You can continue searching down to the end of the page by clicking Find Next.

You will come across many instances of "html" that should not be changed. The ones you need to change to shtml are any references to your threads, which would look like:

...$ExactPath/HTML/$number.html

or variables that hold the file extension which looks like:

$FileExt = "html";

Digital Boy's instructions also tell you to change the directory names to SHTML, but it is not necessary. Also, the instructions make no mention of active.cgi (for those that have the active thread hack installed). You will need to do the same thing in that file, but I think it's only one line you have to change.

Anyway, make sure you do a thorough search through every CGI file in the instructions so you don't miss anything. This is really the only way to do it safely because the reference line numbers in the instructions are almost useless if you have a lot of hack already installed.

Finally, make sure you understand what needs to be changed before attempting this. And don't forget to ftp into your site and delete the .html thread files before updating your threads. If you changed the directory names from HTML to SHTML when you did the hack, you will also need to delete your HTML directories.

If your using Apache you can get round this problem by adding a lines to the .htaccess file.
Code
code:

This will parse .html files but might increase the server load slightly parsing all HTML files.

I re-documented the instructions to reduce the confusion. Sent DB a copy a while back but I think he must have been too busy to put it in the Database.

A lot easier to install smile Tested on 5.47e and worked great.

*this makes it easy to use SSI on any of your threads without changing your .htaccess to parse all .html files which will slow a busy board down. My reason for using this was to include the Who's online feature that will allow drilling down to the thread people are viewing.

<-- Get it here -->

Props go to DB + Montego for this as I just 'fixed' the instructions.
