The Smilie cp-addon (http://ubbcodehacking.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000025.html) is fully bugfixed now; I've tested it thorougly and found no errors. Instructions: http://feyenoordmb.virtualave.net/ubbhacks/smiliecp-instructions.txt
Smilies.txt: http://feyenoordmb.virtualave.net/ubbhacks/smilies.txt

Follow the instructions very carefully and don't forget to chmod the smilies.cgi to 755

This is a wonderful hack .. and well instructed (I'm a newb and I was able to do it no problems)

My one question would be ... on the left where it says Smiles Legend, how could I get that to link to the new Smiles Legend with the new codes and smilies?

Or do I need to manually edit that in the html document?

Thanks!

Anybody had any luck with this in v5.43d?

I got it all set up, but when I go to the smilies settings in cp, I can't do anything.

It shows the form, but there's not way to add a new smilie. In fact, the only boxes available to enter anything are Delete?, Code and my Account and Password... No place to enter the icon graphic... when I put in a :), it just refreshes and nothing changes.

has this happened to anyone???

lalley, I just installed it on the latest version of UBB (5.43d) and it works like a charm!

Do you see a box that says add or something like that? I can't remember what it says, but you need to check the add box and state how many you would like to add ....

If this isn't the problem, I'm sorry I probably can't help since I'm very new with this sort of thing.

Ack!

I blew away my changes in order to get the smilies back to normal...

The "Add" check box did not exist. I saw the tag line telling me to check it to add one, but there was no field for me to check.

I will try it again today, and If I have the same problem again... I'll send you the link so's you can check it out!

Thanks!

I just installed this hack and....

When smilies.cgi executes I get an Internal Server Error.

I ran the smilies.cgi from a unix prompt and got: Undefined subroutine &main::ReadParse called at ./smilies.cgi line 27.

You can access my cp @ http://www.thecollector.com/Ultimate_BBS/cp.html

Any healp would be great.

The Rock,

When you see the icon you want, just save it to your local computer.

You are correct, when viewed in IE it gives that error message.

When viewed in Netscape, I get the promature end of script header.

confused > Is it working allready? Because I think it's a misconfiguration you get there: Make sure you upload in ASCII, the smilies.cgi should reside within the ubbcgi directory and it should be chmodded to 755. The subroutine ReadParse is called from ubb_library.pl so it should work

I got both of these new smilie hacks installed. The smilie legend thing isn't documented very well. If you refer to the original thread of that hack you should scroll down and read the "mod" Mutt wrote up. I also found that Mutt left something out...

smilies.cgi

add:

require "Styles.file";

Kut,

Where should we add that line of text at? I read that somewhere but never added it, because I was not sure where to stick the require "Styles.file"; at..

Thanks.

In postings.cgi and smilies.cgi look at the top of the file. Near the top there will be a couple lines that say:

require "ubb_library.pl";
require "ubb_library2.pl";

Below that add:

require "Styles.file";

The styles should now work for the smilies legend. Be sure to remember to add the require to both postings.cgi and smilies.cgi.

Thanks,

Smilies legend still will not work off the MAIN POST NEW TOPIC button??? It only works when I've read a message and either reply to it or if I post a new topic there.. it's really strange, any other suggestions?

Mas*Mind,

Thanks for the help. I had the incorrect directory structure set for:

require "ubb_library.pl";
require "ubb_library2.pl";

It's all working now.

----------------------------------

Highlander,

Try putting the smilies files into the newly created smilies directory.

I don't have that in my postings.cgi file.

This may sound silly, as this is my first experience with UBB (I installed one last night to see if I could do it [Linked Image]), but..
Should I already have a smilies script installed for this? Mas*Mind, have you made a smilies script that goes with the control panel one?

Thanks!

Problem: I tried installing this, people can post fine and everything, but when trying to use smilies it outputs this...(html code)

/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/agent.gif">
/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/angrytounge.gif">
/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif">
/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/blueface.gif">
/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/blushing.gif">
/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/agent.gif"> )
/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/agent.gif">
>/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/blueface.gif">
/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/frowny.gif">
>/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif">
/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/blushing.gif">
/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif">
/boards.gameglow.com/ubb/smilies/surprised.gif">

I did everything exactly the way it said except...

###Now open up your ubb_library.pl and search for:

sub VerifyAdmin

###if the name of the routine is 'sub VerifyAdmin' do noting
###else if the name of the routine is 'sub VerifyAdminCP' change the following line in your smilies.cgi:

&VerifyAdmin($UserName, $Password);

###to:

&VerifyAdminCP($UserName, $Password);

I couldn't find any of those strings or even substrings. But it still works fine other then what I said above. Thanks for the help!

Mas*Mind:

I´m converting this great hack for the freeware.

I´ve added a sub VerifyAdmin and it works.

But I have problems with smilies that contain a "<" or a ">". If I edit the SmiliesDB.cgi on my own and write "<" as "<", it works. But in case I use your smilies.cgi, it converts it again to "<". Can you tell me, how to tell the smilies.cgi to save "<" as "<" ???

Didn't test it but I think it'll work:

find (smilies.cgi)

$smiliecode = "smilie-" . "$i";

and add below it:

$smiliecode =~ s/ $smiliecode =~ s/>/>/g;

Done!

Note that the < > will allways be converted! Even if you turned html on. The problem is the disable html setting is configured per forum so you can't check it when you configure your smilies.

btw: I changed my doc cal, thanks for pointing it out [Linked Image]

Anytime. Thanks for such a great hack. Have you made the #include modification as well?

Another thing I changed was to take out the sizing parameters for the smilie IMG tag in the legend - the confused smilie got crushed since it's bigger than the rest.

Didn´t work. Edited smilies.cgi like this:

sub submitSmilieSettings {
$number = 0;

open (SMILIEFILE, ">$SmilieDB") or die ("Can't open file: $SmilieDB!");
for($i=1; $i<=$SmilieCount; $i++) {
$smiliedel = "delete-$i";
if($$smiliedel ne "Yes") {
$number++;
$smiliecode = "smilie-" . "$i";
$smiliecode =~ s/ $smiliecode =~ s/>/>/g;
$smiliepic = "smiliepic-" . "$i";
$smilieline = "$$smiliecode" . "|^|" . "$$smiliepicn";
unless($$smiliecode eq "" | | $$smiliepic eq "") {
print SMILIEFILE ("$smilieline");
}
}
}
close(SMILIEFILE);
chmod (0777, "$SmilieDB");
&smilieSettings;
}

In my manually made SmilieDB.cgi had been smilies with "<". After inserting a new smilie, I had "<" instead.

while working on my ubbbuttons, I've come up with a way to just click on the smilie code, name or pic and have the smilie code automatically inserted into the message window. when i get this 100% working, I'll post it. currently only works for one of the 3 post pages at a time, have to build a little sub so it works in edit, reply and post. will have it for yas this weekend

it's damn cool. i know i said damn and this ubb will censor damn, but it is damn cool and I have to say that whether ubb code hackers hideout likes it or not. [Linked Image]

I have a somewhat sucky problem with this (great) hack:

# 1 - Make sure the perl path is correct, this should probably be: #!/usr/bin/perl of #!/usr/local/bin/perl

- Okay - got that right!

# 2 - Make a new link in cplinks.html pointing to http://yourdomain.ext/yourubbpath/smilies.cgi?action=smilieSettings

- Did that correctly as well

# 3 - Make a separate directory for your smilies within the NonCGIPath eg: /yournoncgipath/smilies

- Mission accomplished!

# 4 - Go into your general settings and enter the SmiliePath and SmilieURL variables and submit

- Whoops! I have none of those variables in my general settings.
I see the link on the left, and it goes to the script - but as those variables aren't set I can hardly do a thing (not adding/modifying/deleting stuff). Does anyone know what this can be?

I placed my smilies.cgi in the ubb cgi dir, and chmodded it 755 - and created all of the other garble mentioned.

I use UBB version :
5.44a

Thanx in advance!
