I'm having to deal with a very trying situation with my current Host Provider concerning my Board (v. 6.4.1). They have disabled my Board for what they claim is unacceptably high resource usage. This is the 3rd time they have done this and each time having made no changes to the script(s), the "abuse" has subsided and the Board was restored.

1) The Board sees very little activity, e.g., 3-5 concurrent members logged on.
2) I've added a "robots.txt" file to prevent any indexing of the Board by search engines.

The latest abuse message from the Host Provider reads as follows:

Quote
Hi, Recently your account was utilizing excessive resources. Details are as follows: A detail of the problem is shown below as: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (domain & IP) Top Process %CPU 13.6 httpd [the-highway.com] [/forum/stylesheets/nami-grad.css] Top Process %CPU 12.0 /usr/bin/php /home/thehi15/public_html/forum/showthreaded.php Top Process %CPU 10.0 /usr/bin/php /home/thehi15/public_html/forum/showprofile.php CPU - 9.82 Memory - 2.44 mySQL - 0.6
I've had someone check some of this who is very knowledgeable of UBBThreads and my Board specifically and he can't see why the problem exists re: the scripts.

I am looking for some ideas on how to proceed at this point. To say the least, this is very aggravating and frustrating. It would be a shame to have to abandon things after 14 years of being online.

Thanks,

Jeff

New host? VPS?...

Honestly, accessing your style shouldn't take 13.6% CPU time tipsy...

Okay, I got access to the 3 "offending" files; 1 CSS and the "showthreaded.php" and "showprofile.php".

1. The dates for none of those files had been changed from when they were uploaded to the server. In other words, on the surface, it appears that no one has touched these files.

2. I went through the CSS file line by line and everything looks fine, as expected.

3. I then compared the two php scripts with those I have saved on my HDD in Araxis Merge and nothing has been altered in either of them.

However, just to be absolutely sure that code is okay, would someone be willing to take a brief look at them to see if there is some kind of error in the code that might cause a problem with "high CPU usage" on the server? I've attached both php scripts in a zip file.

In the meantime, my Host Provider has my forum locked down and I really need to do something.

If you have some longish topics showthreaded could be taking some server load. For showprofile I'd set it to member only so guests can't view them. If you look in the file toward the top there's an option to set it to members only. The css file, there's no reason it should take any server load - it's a text file being served and saved on the visitors computer.

I removed your attachment, we can't attach the copyrighted php files.

I did look at the showprofile, it doesn't have the option mentioned (that's ubb.threads 7.x material), but I did see you already did something like that.

It's possible there are some innefficiencies in 6.5.x, but at 4-5 members online, that shouldn't be an issue, with any host.

You may close this thread if you like since the issue is now moot. I've since upgraded to 7.4.1 and moved to another Host and a VPS. Everything is working just dandy now.[Linked Image]
