UBB.Developers Forums UBB.threads 6 V6 Modifications V6 Mod Ideas Limit links in posts and signatures by post count

Many forum spammers, spambots, and pornbots register, then immediately post images and/or links. Most other BB packages have mods that will prohibit users under certain post counts from including any kinds of URLs (whether links or images) in their messages or signatures, but I haven't been able to find such a mod for UBB 6.5.2. This would be a very helpful tool in the fight against Spam.

6.5.2? Your first step in securing your site should be to upgrade to at least 6.5.5. I wouldn't think what you're asking is that difficult (at least for those who know how to write code ).

Unfortunately, for the board in question, I am not the one who runs it - just one of the regular users who has a lot of computer experience and has worked with other forum software. Since I know the feature I requested IS available for the other forum software I have used, it is something I have suggested to the moderators of the board, so I'm trying to help them find a good solution to the Spam problem.

Other methods I have seen are:

• Put shapes over some of the registration CAPTCHA letters, and have the user enter only the letters not marked by a particular shape;
• Display a series of colour names, displayed in various colours, and have the user type the name of the one word that is actually in the same colour it names;
• Randomising the name of the variable used for validation in the URL, so users cannot bypass validation just but faking out the URL.

I'll pass your suggestion about 6.5.5 on to them, though.
