Fileman :: ReviewBy: Greg "Mastermind" Hard
Gossamer-Threads makes several scripts, including fileman, mysqlman, and links. They have other scripts, including a mysql version of links called Links SQL. Today we are going to do a review of the best file manager available, Fileman. Fileman is a robust, perl based, customizable file manager. Some features, of many, including the ability to give root access to administrators, multiple users with their own directories (multi user license required), an easy to use administrative interface, a built in WYSIWYG editor and more! If you're on the road, and near a computer, you can update your website from any computer worldwide, which is a great feature. Version 2 Beta 1 was released and it includes many many more features. It allows you to set how much space each user can use, and will even tell them when they are out of space. The multi user license costs $150 per server, and it is worth every cent. If you're only using it for one person, use the free version. Someone who is new to the internet can use Fileman. Someone who has been on the net since 1989 can use Fileman. It is very easy to use for newbies. The requirements are very easy to find. Perl 5 and a server supporting CGI extensions. I suggest this script to all webmasters who need an easy script that allows users to have their own directory, or just something a webmaster uses to change their webpage on the road. Anywhere there's a computer you'll find an easy program on your server, accessible via the web, to edit your homepage! Keep a vacation diary with Fileman. Seriously, I am thinking of doing it. In addition to multiple users and ease of use, good price and online editing separates Fileman from the rest of file managing utilities. I suggest this program to any webmaster who goes out of the house more than once a year. Nice if you have a starbucks and an 802.11b card around. Now, Because I like you, because you listen to my inane ramblings, I'm gonna show you a LIVE DEMO! of fileman. Click

Performance:
5 out of 5. Very stable!
GUI:
4 out of 5. Not that the GUI matters in this type of program, but...
