I've just had the 'pleasure' of upgrading from 6.1 to 6.4.1. I've installed a bunch of the modifications which I find I now can't live without Question is... when 6.5 hits the streets will I need to reinstall the modifications that aren't included in the new release... or will they somehow be grandfathered? Thanks!

the way you should work it is every minor update like 6.4 to 6.4.1 to 6.4.2 you can do a beyond compare but every major update like 6.4.x to 6.5 should be fresh and you should reinstall any hacks you want from scratch.

[]but every major update like 6.4.x to 6.5 should be fresh and you should reinstall any hacks you want from scratch.[/] I understand the reinstallation of hacks from scratch part, but what I don't understand is this "update should be fresh" part?
How does one to a "fresh update"? Do you simply upload ALL the files in the package and overwrite what you already have? or do you delete the entire previous installation (after making a database backup of course) and start over? I would appreciate knowing how this is done.
Can I also assume that some/many of the hacks we are now using with 6.4.1 and which aren't incorporated in 6.5 aren't going to be compatible and they will need to be rewritten?

Yeah, in 6.5 every script will be changed - so that pretty much forces a "fresh" update, meaning you have to overwrite every existing script.
A good many of the hacks will most likely need to be rewritten for 6.5 as some of the code changes are significant.
