Let me recomend you at least download and install phpMyAdmin. It can sit in the docroot directory in a folder you create where the rest of your html's are so you really don't need special permissions on the box minus the permissioning you need for MYSQL..
it's easy to use and much more robust then just relying on the Admin Menu of Threads..

Webmin is also a good frontend to Your linux Box in general so that you do not need to have extra monitor, Mouse and Keyboard laying arround. Webmin can be downloaded at www.webmin.com and covers most of the server software that you will be using and the best feature is that it is free. I use phpmyadmin for the database manipulation tho since it is a fairly all inclusinve resource for mysql.

yeah on my testbox I use webmin and phpMyAdmin on my remote server I use Cpanel and phpMyAdmin
