I saw this post at the vbulletin forums and was wondering how it would affect (if at all) threads on a server using MySQL 4?

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=69070

Specifically it says to add this to my.cnf
Code
[mysqld]<br />skip-innodb <br />query_cache_limit = 1M<br />query_cache_size = 32M<br />query_cache_type = 1<br />

Any MySQL gurus out there have any insight?

Well I made these changes and do not have any hard data yet to say whether or not it is helping, or if different values need to be set or what.

Initially, server load did increase a bit, but on the other hand query times on the forum were a bit lower. So, I will keep tweaking it and testing it later when the site begins to hit it's peak usage and see what happens.

Update:

Guess I jumped the gun on that one After a few minutes the high server loads went down, and down, and down, and are at the lowest I have ever seen them. I assume the high loads initially were while the cache was being filled? Heck if I know.

But right now my server is enjoying the lowest loads it has ever seen If this continues I guess it will be applied to all servers.

Like anything else in the my.cnf, it's going to depend on what you have for system resources available. There is no "one size fits all" for this.

Picture perfect penmanship here.
