Hmm, I've been meaning to post this for some time, but never got around to it. I have noticed on my site the spotlight isn't very random. I am on my page quite a bit throughout the day, and I can easily see the same profile come up in the same day. Also, even from day to day, its always the same ones it seems.

So I'm just wondering how you do the random thing? Is it just like a rand() function with a seed? I'd just like a way to make it more random than it is now, because it seems to favor certain profiles and only pull those ones the most.

Do you have it set to require certain fields? If you check too many boxes and require lots of fields to be complete... then there typically aren't very many users to pull from. I think you'll get the most random selection by not checking any of the field boxes.

lol, I totally forgot there was a setting to adjust what things it looked for to include it in the spotlight. I reduced it from 5 things to 2, should make a huge difference. Thanks Josh

Yes, exactly.

The rand() function isn't available in all mysql versions so I have avoided it and select a random numbered row out of how ever many rows there are to select from. Lowering the number of required fields will give it a greater number to select from as Josh pointed out.
