What can I change to prevent people from adding ruder versions of "iwannadoyoulikeadog.com" to their "My Home Page profile field, and worse versions of "[email protected]" as their publicly displayed email address?

The past few days I've had trouble with naughty users adding undesireable theings to their profiles and I don't have time to keep checking and removing.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I wonder if these get run through the badwords filter? Have you added words to your censor list?

Hi Allen!

Yes, I've added all the typical undesireable words to the bad-word filter, but they don't seem to be recognized when entered into profile fields like the homepage and public email.

So, on my family-safe site, I get teens placing "yourmamas[censored]@smellslike[censored].com" in their email field, and their home page as "[censored]my[cendored].net".

Err, those were self-censored examples I just gave you, but you get the idea.

For the time being I have edited those fields right out of the editbasic template so they can't change them back to the nasty words, but that takes away functionality for my real user base, the nice, friendly adults that I want to serve.

It would be nice if all the profile fields could go through the filter before being accepted. I run a clean site, and this is a real pain in the neck for me and my users -- particularly in my Christian Fellowship categories, they are REALLY not thrilled.

Allen,

How about taking the approach of the Approve Avatars modification. The users will enter information in their profile which will go to a temporary location and will pend approval from the admins.

Although this might cause a lot of hassle to the admin (having to check all the information entered), it will deter people from doing it, since they will know that without the admin's approval they won't get away with it. It might be difficult for the admins at first but I think it will work.

Warm regards

Nikos
