I am think of creating a "marketplace" section of my site
but I want the entire catgory to appear on it's own page.

I know that you can specify the category by adding cat number
or a multiples to show only a few categories.

But what about the Main Index link every were, If a user clicks
that they should see all categories & forums except the marketplace

does this rambling make any sense?

If I am reading your question correctly all you need to do is on your link from the home page link to http://www.fmforums.com/threads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and then have a separate link in the Nav section for your market place to http://www.fmforums.com/threads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=8.

However I would change the nav link in ubbt_registerednav.tmpl from <a href = "$phpurl/$FrontPage.php?Cat=$Cat" $target>{$ubbt_lang['FORUM_IND']}</a> to <a href = "http://www.fmforums.com/threads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=1,2,3,4,5,6,7 " $target>{$ubbt_lang['FORUM_IND']}</a> so that the main index page will always go back to the full listing.

You could leave the un-registered one as it is, if you do not want un-registered people seeing the marketplace.

I think that is the general idea. Just wanting to make sure
all the ramifications are known pror to proceeding.

I realize searching will find stuff in the marketplace but
that really dosen't matter.

No - searching will be limited to either the main forums - or the market place - incuding the last 24/48/168 hour searches.
