I like the new feature of having the number of new replies listed in the "replies" column in postlist, but there is one thing that is peculiar about it--we don't know if the post that started the thread is new. This makes me wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to have a "posts" column (which includes the first post in the thread in the counting) instead of a "replies" column. This would put all posts in a thread on an equal footing and it would make the page more consistent with the main wwwthreads page (which has a "posts" column). I don't know what others think about the intuitiveness of "posts" vs. "replies" so I figured I would throw it out there...

Also, I would advocate not italicizing the number of new replies--I don't see any reason for the formatting of this number to be inconsistent with that of the number of new posts/threads shown on the main page.

I'm undecided on posts v replies but definitely agree we should get rid of the italics.

I don't like the italics either...

Posts would be ok, but I don't think there is a problem with listing replies, as it is... one of those things that could work either way.

....if you don't like the italics, change the stylesheet, silly. []/w3timages/icons/cool.gif[/]

Duh, I didn't think of that...
I'm not too familiar with the stylesheets (yet).

And I'm running that stone-age 5.1.3 perl version (test forum only, still)... []/w3timages/icons/crazy.gif[/]

A little tinkering and the stylesheets become really easy to work with, IMO.

Hey I got an idea!!

Many of you think that the bright red italized number of new replies with its parenthesis ruins the clean look of the board. I agree. What if we replace it with some kind of non-intrusive icons?

For example:

Brown little square indicates 1 - 10 new replies.
Orange little square indicates 11 - 20 new replies
Red little square indicates 20+ new replies

Simple yet informative.

I don't think people need to know the exact number of new replies. It can create information overload syndrome, the doctor says. :)

What do you guys think?

I like it more as it is right now. You dont like the red? You can change it in the stylesheet!

Why would you want an icon telling your users the range of replies when you can actually give them the real number?
