Name: Post Count-Restricted Forums

Description: Allows Administrators to restrict access to a forum by post count. Restriction is via Forum Settings section in Control Panel, and an unlimited number of forums can be set in this way. Administrators and Moderators of the post count-restricted forums can bypass the post count limit, in the same way that they are able to bypass other forum restrictions. Fully Wordlet-ised for easy modification and translation.

Link: TXT File

Requirements: UBB.classic 6.5.x (May work on older 6.x versions - Unsupported by me if used on versions older than 6.2.x, since that's as far as my UBB backups go)

Release Notes: Yes, this is the hack UBBDev's been waiting for for years (avoiding all possible exaggerations tipsy ). Almost completely foolproof; in other words, you can't log out and access the protected forum, Mods of other forums can't make topics and move them into the protected forum, you can't search through the forum without access to it, etc. However, as is the nature of my hacks, there will be bugs. tipsy Saying that, it has been tested intensively as far as possible. Any bugs (and their fixes if possible), problems, questions or anything else you'd like to moan about in this topic, please. smile I'd also appreciate any posts from Charles Himself regarding safety/code sanity and so on. wink

Sorry, I'll shove it in my modspace, or upload it to the server or something...

See, this is what happens when a static IP isn't actually static. frown

Question:

suppose a user should have 200 posts before it can access a forum. The user now has 210 posts.

then i go my CP and prune about 50 posts of this user, will he still be able to get access to the section then?..

If a member's profile post count is changed when posts are pruned (which I don't think it is, IIRC), then yes, they will still be able to access the forum. But you could always change the post count back down to whatever you want it to be via FTP, or the CP if you have that hack installed... wink

thnx for the help man... marvelous hack!

although something is not 100% right in this hack

when i set the forum to have at least 200 posts and i press the "update forum Settings" button then it is being saved like it should be.

but when i ask for the same forum again, the amount of 200 i just submitted is not being displayed anymore..

wink

Have you installed any hacks that edit individual forum properties in any way (like the Upload Hack)? If so, PM me and I'll sort out a modified version for you. If not, make sure you modified cp_forums.cgi correctly and try again. smile

As I said, this has been fully tested on 6.5.0 (the version you're using), so it should work fine...

thanks, be looking forward to that!

just a question, if an unregistered member goes to a post restricted forum should they be able to get in? Because sometimes they can and sometimes they can't, and I don't know why it would change?

I've installed this hack but I had to take it out because while it does a great job keep registered members out of a forum, it does not prevent unregistered members from viewing the forum. Any chance someone could update this hack?

The hack doesn't seem to produce this kind of behaviour on the UBB versions I've tested this on (6.4 - 6.5), since it checks for the existence of a user profile before allowing access to the restricted forum, so please rehack all files and try again...

Before I go installing this hack, did someone get the "back doors" to the restricted forum fixed?

1) The Today's Active Topics link
2) The links found in the Recent Visitors section

Thanks!

in my cp_forums:
$newvarsforums .= join("|^|", ( split(/|^|/, $_) )[0 .. 17
change that 17 to 19 right?
but mine was 19 already (guess from doing every other hack available. So I made it 21. does this mess anything else up or do i need to update anything else to 21 also?

First question: Yeah, it does, to make sure everything matches up with the contents of vars_forums.cgi. smile

Second question: I think this should work on 6.3.x with little or no modification, since there's not too much of a code difference between 6.3 and 6.5...

Some arrays that need checking aren't always @this_forum, if I remember correctly... Check through again to find any remaining references to the number "19" inside an array and change them all to 21...

Yes, that was correct. smile

Example of what I posted above:

Code
*******************************
* Open: ubb_forum_summary.cgi *
*******************************

Find:
=====

# don't show last message for private forums!
if ($thisforuminfo[6] =~ m/private/) {

Replace with:
=============

# don't show last message for private forums!
if (($thisforuminfo[6] =~ m/private/) || ($thisforuminfo[19])) {
Here, the array name is @thisforuminfo, not @this_forum. They both need to be changed. If you want, I can give you a complete list of arrays that you'll need to change...

thanks man, i figured it out.
i used the handy control-F throughout all the files and changed every 19 to 20
though I was lucky enough to spot the upload hack stuff and left that at 19
i did '20' instead of '21' to be safe

i also had grammatical error from cut and pasting from the .txt file
the carraige return didnt copy and alot of code was thus commented out

I'm trying to install this hack for version 6.2.1. It all seemed to work fine in testing, and I posted a test message in the new count restricted forum, and all was good. Then I posted a message in a regular forum and I get this error message (though some of the posts are appearing anyway)

Undefined subroutine &main::update_tat called at /home/cgi-bin/atestboard/ubb_new_topic.cgi line 558.

On the ubb_new_topic.cgi file, in 6.2.1 there's nothing about a tat. (I went ahead and replaced some of the similar code with the hack code, but obviously I screwed it up)

For example, supposed to find:

Find:
=====

# index:
# create promo edition of message
$mess_truncated = &promo($message);
&append_index($in{f}, $new_topic_number, $this_forum[6], "000000", $message, $in{topic_subject});

# Update the CI & TAT indexes
&RequireCode("$vars_config{CGIPath}/ubb_lib_ci.cgi");
my @td = &GetThreadData($in{f}, $new_topic_number);
&update_tat($in{f}, $new_topic_number, @td);
&refresh_recentmeta($in{f}, $new_topic_number, "000000", "add", @td);
&update_cis($in{f});
&update_cis("ALL");

but here's what's there:

# index:
# create promo edition of message
$mess_truncated = &promo($message);
&append_index($in{f}, $new_topic_number, $this_forum[6], "000000");

# take viewer back to forum
%vars_style = &LoadStyleTemplate($template_match{transition});
&set_page_elements;
&Transition("$vars_config{CGIURL}/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=$in{f};t=$new_topic_number", "$vars_wordlets{thanks_for_posting}", "$in{topic_subject}");

Any ideas on what I should do? (If I can get this fixed, this is a COOL hack, perfect for what I want!)

Thanks,

Ang

This hack is meant only for 6.5+ series boards, though it should work in 6.4... The oldest "modern" code is considered 6.3.1. Porting hacks meant for later versions to versions older than 6.3.1 is going to be a major task...

I suggest you upgrade. wink

In that case, I suggest using only the forum info fields which are not currently in use... I'm fairly sure no other hacks are using field #22, so try that instead...

Let me know how you get on smile

Hi CTM,

22 also did not work, the value of Post will not be saved, if I go back to a forum I have changed, the Post-Count-Restricted field is empty....

Can you have a look to my files?

When you click at the forum-summary site at last post (direct link) every user can read the last post at this post-count restricted forum...

What can I do?

Hmm, 6.6... I'll take my best shot, but it might not be me who ends up porting it. The UBB side would stay the same, but the CP side would be turned upside-down... Nevertheless, I'll have a go. smile

6.7... I'm working on finishing the 6.6 version of this (I've decided to move the "enough posts" check to a separate subroutine so it can easily be changed for future versions), but the CP interface is still throwing me.

I'll need to talk to Al about that. Give me a couple of days wink
