MyStyle™ modification takes much CPU usage, bandwidth and hard disk space, so with the cooperation of AllenAyres, we've created the first-ever UBB style template changer which doesn't require you to get a better server to use. IPHQ will have a demo very soon However, sorry about this LK, but I'm using another Perl-based CSS manager to merge with the entire site, so users can change every colour on the site through one dropdown box... Still, I'll leave your hack on my test board for sure, just for your sake so you have a demo for this

ok, I started moving my boards over to css with this, but I get an error when I Upgrade(rebuild everything, not to 6.5.xx)
It says that my public_rating_list.pl is 1.13 when a 1.14.2.2 is expected. I'm running 6.5, so I don't know if you just zipped the wrong file

hmmm... this might have been based on a beta 6.5 Try using Beyond Compare to check the files here and the current 6.5 files

while I'm doing that can anyone help me with my other problem? If I select the second color scheme (non-default), it'll show up, but once I leave the boards and come back, it shows the default again, but when I look in my profile it still says I'm using the second one. So I change it to the default, then right back and click ok, and it shows the one I wanted again. Is this a cookie issue? please, help (off topic: I just need to mention how much I love this board. I've been a member of UBBs for years, and came here once to find a hack, and saw all the stuff I could do with UBB. I've been hacking ever since and you guys are just so helpful )

ok, I've gotten 2 reports of this error. when someone's been away from the board and comes back, sometimes the boards is completely unformatted. it's in times new roman and I need to go to my profile and update my profile to get the css to work. I tried and it seems to work well for me... Though maybe you should rename your schemes, so they wouldn't have spaces or parenthesis...

well the good news is that I don't get that error anymore, but I'm having a problem with UBB code now. when I edit, or quote anything I get [/code]when I should be getting UBB code. I am using quick reply if that matters (I heard it might)
also, in ubb_lib_posting.cgi I have
[code] that isn't in css, but it doesn't tell me to edit it in the txt. the only reason I mention it is cause it's in sub reverse_ubb_code thanks for all your help. if anyone wants it I have ported my favorite hacks to css

the problem with quick reply quote is that it uses cache, so until you clear cache or someone posts there it won't be updated...

just when you think you're done  the member ratings don't show on the topic page. it'll show Member Rated: but no stars or red x It shows everywhere else, but not the topic page. I didn't see anything in the txt that would change anything. Have I mentioned you're my favorite member?

Hey LK, I just wanted to say this has to be the best hack ever conceived for the UBB. I wanted to show you what's possible with just a little tweaking. I've ported the Who's Online status effect so that you can make an Admin appear red italic on one skin, but blue bold on another. I've ported DPK's smiley hack so that the popups are even skinned I've added 2 more classes, so that on the main page you can add gradients etc without messing up the looks of main posts. You would not believe how much fun it is to be able to change an entire look by just uploading a different 3KB file. After doing some tweaking, I've added jpg backgrounds to quick reply and other textareas. Here\'s a link to my boards, I just wanted to show you how much flexibility you've added I'm about to PM you a logon for my boards if you wanna look around (I had to disable registrations because of some idiots)

I love what you did with Essence theme: that the altcolumncolors have a background image, the background color of textareas, and your who's online.. also the choice of colors is pretty cool.. (for example the date/posted by color)

haha, actually I uploaded a 2 px transparent gif by accident, that was not glitch.
One thing I did add was in public_common.pl
Non-members were getting no errors, but members who hadn't selected a style yet were getting an unformatted page. so I did this...

yeah, since I had so many conflicting parts of the user profile, it was easier to restart than to search through all the code from all the hacks

This board is using colorforums since UBB 6.2 or so, and the colorforums code we use here is very lame (you can click on View Source in your IE, just see how many lines each image requires) about compact headers - it changes only the top part of some public_*.pl files, and some parts in public_common.pl file, so you can check the compact headers thread and try to port it... yet if at first you don't succeed, try try to ask me to do it

ok, now I got a weird problem (probably makes sense to you ) my games page is using some of the css, but not others. I can use tdheader, etc, but not font tags, or even the scrollbar formatting. I'm clueless on how this can do this. Who's my favorite admin

There's some css in the base code that may be overriding yours. If you have a question, especially about display issues, if you could post a link to exactly where you are seeing the problems, this could be answered much more specifically and easily

oh, ok... the games.cgi file hasn't been updated for css... I didn't do it because most people don't use it yet... you'll need to update it with the classes whereever you see a font tag

I did that, that's the weird thing. the css is used for the colors, and the font style, but not the scrollbar and font size. it uses some of the body tag part of the css file, but not the rest. Can you help almighty css god?

just checking the first one, you don't have anything specified for the scrollbars and you're using several different specifications for font size... not all of them will work. but why does all of the css I've done work on EVERY page except the game page? The scrollbars work on the rest of my board. The font sizes work on the rest of my board. The font colors and background colors, along with font style all work on the games page, but the scrollbar and fontsize don't. Compare http://www.alforadmin.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi and http://www.alforadmin.com/cgi-bin/games.cgi . they both use the same stylesheet, yet on one the scrollbar and fontsize are correct, and the other it isn't.

start with fixing the errors in your css file then we can be sure it's not that It could be the doctype I've added to the startpage sub, it will send your browser into strict mode, which is fine, if your code is up to snuff

yes. if you want to use the new ones and still let the old ones get parsed, in ubb_lib_posting, instead of REPLACING, just ADD BELOW. (it's a bug that it wasn't like that at the first place, sorry ) fixed the zip file

perfect, the last thing I can think of to make this better is this...
If I want to remove a skin, and someone is using it, there forums will be unformatted. Is there anyway to make it so if the skin name that he has chosen is no longer choosable, that it would go to the default?

this hack also makes making a spoiler hack a breeze  You also made the coding very intuitive, so it was easy making other images change with the styles

haha, I pity anyone trying to read this page LK, is there anyway to get the style choice to be editable in cp_edit_profile.pl? It would be nice for that. Also, how about being able to search in the directory for anyone using a certain style, nice to combine these incase we ever need to remove a style

question: with this CSS style templates, I understand u can change them in ur profile, but can u make it so that when u update it in ur profile, it updates ur homepage as well?
I dunno, I saw it on ubbdev.com. U can like change it to blue, and the whole homepage turns blue. Its pretty sweet

it's stored in a cookie, so if you know how to call a cookie in an html page, you could just have it use the same code as in the public_common.pl

well there is the MyStyle hack, but that ruins the cache because it doesn't use css, thus must rerender the page for every viewer. Theoretically there was a 6.3 version which was never released, it was only used by ubbdev

hehe... we're using 6.6 colorforums here.. but we have a problem (check all Forum Pages, scroll down to the bottom, you see "Powered by:" is huge.. and sometimes also javascript problems in that page)

hey LK, any chance for the 6.7 Colorforums to have the preview not change your cookies? ie, create a public_style_preview.pl, and have it change with the skin, so that people aren't confused when there skin is Frost, but their profile says Khaki.

Just some information for those waiting for a 6.6 version, it's not coming. I'm taking over the mod in 6.7, and already have some nice features added(or being added) - A new preview skin page, which doesn't mess with your cookies, and will give you a better preview overall of the skin [ Preview ]
- CP Integration, giving you the ability to choose which images change with the styles, and which don't without having to open a template.
- You will also be able to override a user's choice, so that on Holidays everyone will see that tacky Green and Red style instead of the one they chose.
- Also, you will be able to set the default style for those unregistered or that have not chosen a style.
I also plan on releasing a Compact Headers version for the 1 site that would use it

It's possible, but you'll need to edit the TBT sub in public_common.pl to use the gradient image.

TBT will cover most places you might want the image, anywhere else wil be a matter of your preference.
I'm not at home, so I don't have code to post, but it's in:
sub TBT {
in public_common.pl and adding the background image in that table there would be the same html code you'd use for any plain html page.

In your noncgi folder, there will be a folder called Styles
in there will be files. open them, and find the line that starts
q!TableColorStrip!
edit that line to be something like
q!TableColorStrip! => q~#000000" style="background-image: url('/grad1.gif');~
This will get undone when you edit styles in the CP, so remember how to do this.
you can do something similar for the line starting q!CategoryStripColor!

Guys, sorry to divert the topic away from the Colorforums discussion, but I'm close to getting my layout to look the way I want. Ian, I was only able to get the gradient to appear in the row that displays the recent visitors. I used the following code: q!TableColorStrip! => q!#003743" background="grad.gif"!, However, for CategoryStripColor, I tried the code you listed but it needs some tweaking. instead of using background-image, try to use background. that should override the color specified and give you the gradient.

I am trying to create a gradient for the Table Color Strip. I get the same results that Hussein got in the above posts (only the recent visitors table strip has a gradient), the other headers are #777777 in color, which is in the code, but I'm confused as to overiding it as Ian mentioned above. After downloading the appropriate Vars file I modified the q!TableColorStrip! option. The code I entered is below q!TableColorStrip! => q!#777777" qq~ style="filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Gradient(endColorstr='#00aa00', startColorstr='#003300', gradientType='0');"~!, I've tried a few different permutations of that code as well as Ian's suggestions above but with the same results. I am clearing the cache on the UBB every time I test a new Vars file as well. Maybe I am missing something else in the code?
Also, I deleted the old Vars, uploaded the new, set changed mode to 777, cleared the UBB cache, and cleared my browser cache.
Perhaps I am missing something, I tend to skip the obvious...
Another thought, perhaps the only way to do this is to create an actual image, and use that instead of the gradient option?

the image should work, I am wondering if the gradient only works in td's and not table's tho. Possibly the color noted in the td's is overriding the gradient set in the table that holds the td's. What does it look like in firefox?

Okay, so use an image created in Fireworks (etc...) instead of the Microsoft.gradient.
I guess that is what they were talking about in the above posts.
I had never looked at the site with Firefox, i never knew that it changes the look of the site a lot. Seems it doesn't like the gradients, and has trouble with background images for tables.
I'll try the graphic and see what happens.
