I have asked this question a few times with little response.
Since the digest feature is now gone.
Would there be a way using something like the moderator notification feature to send a email to a mail list. With version 6.2 you have to add a member number as moderator. If you could just add a email address and use a mail list. Then anyone interested could subscribe to the mail list and be notified whenever somthing is posted on the forum.

I assume you are talking about having a fictitious moderator. I have one now but anyone subcribing to the list could obtain the moderator password by using the forgotten password feature?
Also the wordlet used for the verbage of the email would not apply to both moderator and subscriber.

Then change the Wordlet to something more general, i.e. "A forum you are monitoring has a new post..."

If you lock and ban the the notamoderator profile, you can prevent anyone from logging in as him, even if they know the password.

Okay!
I did not think about that.
In version 5 it was a concern and a problem.
So if I understand you, lock the member in the control panel using the selection lock this profile. I assume I can also disable the member from sending private messages. Then goto ban lists and type in the email address of the pusudo moderator?
This would still allow a moderator notification to go out to the locked and banned member.
Then just find the wordlet for moderator notification and modify the wording.
Well I guess the old adage is true."can't see the forest for the trees".
Thanks Charles I will try it out.

That sounds all correct, Ruben. smile

Are you using 6.2 or 6.2.1? If so, modifying the moderator notification wordlet should be pretty simple.

I will be using 6.2.1 as soon as it is out of beta.
I see one delimma with your suggestion.
If I add this member as a moderator it will show up on the top left of the forum as a link.
You know where it says moderated by:"membername"
I would prefer to only display real moderators.
Would there be a way to not display specific members as moderators?

Hmmm... well, you can go change all the code that does moderator displays, or you can give that profile a certain PDN, i.e. "Email Digest Bot" so its function is obvious.

Well I upgraded to 6.2.1 and locked the member and banned it.
The member is not allowed to logon but if you use the lost password it still emails the logon name and password.
I would prefer it did not.

Hmmm... Remove the user's email address and user number from emailfile.cgi. You'll need to do so every time after you rebuild member stats in the future. In the mean time, I'll log that as a bug and ensure it's FITNR>
