Is this the right place to ask this?
I have v6.1.0.3, and I've only just started working with UBB's, so this just could be me making mistakes.
I've tried installing 3 hacks so far into the board, and so far all have failed to work.

The first was a 'Custom Status/Ranks' hack, but I think I just coded it wrong.

The second was a hack to add extra statistics to the UBB, and after installing, I couldn't open the Control Panel (Error 500: Internal Server Error).

The third, which I tried today, was 'SmilieMod 1.3', and this time I couldn't open CP or ultimatebb.cgi, getting the same error as before (Error 500).

For all of these, I followed the instructions as closely as possible. No-one else using the same hacks had these problems (at least none posted in the topic). Any ideas what could cause these errors (error 500)? confused

You might consider using the multihack files we have in the database...

Error 500 is typically caused by incorrect permissions on the file. Your .cgi files should be 755, and your vars_*.cgi should be 777. This is assuming you are on a Linux server.

are you on a unix server? If so, you may have hacked everything right and just forgotten to CHmod or didn't Chmod the files correctly...

I'm not sure of the type of server, but it musn't be Linux/unix, cos I can't Chmod. I have to go into the properties and set permissions, but I only checked they matched the other files of that type (templates, cgi or variables), so I might have got them wrong.

I tried fixing the permissions but it makes no difference. I do not think it's the permissions, because if I have the edited and unedited versions of the pages with the same permissions, only the original version works.

I got Multihack and tried it, but got the same error on CP.

I've tried everything and nothing works. Is it possible that my host has something on the server which stops me running edited files? that's the only thing I can think of.
