I've been the admin of an Unreal Tornament server for a while now, and I've been really intrigued as to how it starts a HTTP daemon-style process on a specified port on the host machine. I've realised that this could be incredibly useful for a Perl script that I've already written, and I'd love to know if there's a script that's already been written (or a Perl module) that can give me the capability of doing this.

Example: When the script is run, it uses a port on localhost (say, for argument, 6000) and turns it into a HTTP server port. From the page http://localhost:6000, I could then use admin functions on the same script (eg. setting variables inside the script).

This might sound confusing/stupid ( tipsy ), but I really hope there's a method that can help me accomplish this. smile

Thanks in advance for any help smile

Because the script is meant to be a continuously running process, and (as far as I know) outside programs can't change the value of variables inside a running Perl script...

There's a very good chance that I'm wrong, of course wink

I've written a handful of little scripts that act as quick HTTP proxies and servers before... it's pretty simple to do, though I can't find any prebuilt httpds on CPAN...

Yeah, Charles, that was probably the first place I looked. Then Hotscripts, then a quick Google search... but still nothing. smirk

I've already tried using some of the modules on CPAN, but it was like looking for the light switch in the dark to me. frown

Would you be generous enough to point me in the right direction, please? smile

Ah... Yes, it does contain the kind of functionality I'm after...

I've had (limited) success with AmphetaDesk's source code, but it seems to be the kind of stuff I'm looking for.

Thanks Burak smile
