how do i get a value like 3.427821522309711 to only show 1 decimal place. "3.4" is there a number format routine or something? the number could be something like 12.23423423423 as well.. and i'd want that to look like "12.2" thanks in advance.

have a look at the sprintf command
perldoc -f sprintf
