UBBDEV: What is your background and when did you start out on the
web?
Rob: I started on the web about 7 years ago, instantly wanting to create my own site.
I taught myself html in a day, and just evolve with the medium. my design ideas then served little-to-no purpose to anyone else, but, they just seemed so cool to me. and, if you check out my site now... you'll pretty much see the same thing.
Its a lotta hype n'glitz that, probably, only appeals to me. But, that's cool with me.
I'm havin fun with it.
My background is, I guess, as an artist. A fine, or "regular" artist, first and foremost.
That's what helps me with new n'innovative designs. imagination, n'warped head help out, too, but, whatever. later on,
I really got into computer's and their art, like photoshop, flash, and 3d studio. so, i went out n'earned my certification in computer graphics.
I've since worked with several big companies (like time warner, dc comics, seton hall university, etc), doin web stuff n'multimedia stuff fer'em. and,
I'm, actually, currently looking for more, full-time work, like dat (mebbe y'could help a brotha out?).
But, most importantly, I just like being excited and havin fun. I'm really justa kid, and will probably never change (maturity is over rated).
So, that's what helps the most (and serves as my focus) when designin n'stuff.
UBBDEV: How did you come up with the idea for
robkamphausen?
RK:
Well, the name is from 1) my mom'n'dad. 2) a lack of website-naming-creativity. 3) and a sad, pathetic ego, much in need of some nurturing.
The site is pretty much just the third. The website is, really, the virtual me.
It's fun, funny, exciting, silly, crazy, and, more or less, pointless.
It's just all my favorite things impossibly forced together in a happy lil family of interests. mine. add that with my ... unique... personality (and typin' style), and, BAM. y'got virtual rob.
UBBDEV: Why did you choose the UBB over other forum software?
RK:
simply put, it's just better. much easier to use and VERY open to being customized (with graphics, hacks, etc). plus, in a broad sense, i hate other internet message boards -- they're clumsy and ugly. the UBB is also widely used. most people have seen'em somewhere, at least, and seem to have a general idea how to use'em and how to register. thus, my boards dont scare away out potential-members.

UBBDEV: What is your favorite UBB Modification?
RK:
hmm... probably the "who's online" deal. painless installation, and, makes posts and their debates cooler (as people are more apt to discuss things when they see that the person they're discussing with is also online).
UBBDEV: How did you do that very cool intro? I think it looks very cool.
RK:
thanks! i used macromedia flash for the whole shpeal. definitly a sweet program. i've been creating for web sites for 'bout 6 years now, and, way back then, all i ever wanted to do was create sweet-lookin, allbeit pointless, graphics and animations. finally, im able t'do sucha thing. i set it up similar to how a movie's "teaser" would appear, as it serves the same purpose (to introduce my site). that whole "ego" thing fit in there a lil too :)~ its a whole buncha hype n'excitement, just like me. when i go somewhere, i gotta be loud n'bold (and, probably, annoying). my site's introduction is no different. FEEL that intense beat, n'letchyer eyes be amazed!
..heh..
UBBDEV: Do you have any tips or suggestions for other webmasters trying to build a site?
RK:
the best thing you can do is NOT copy the way others have set up their pages. be yer own person -- make it yer own site. too many sites on the web look exactly the same, and, that really dulls my "browsing experience." so, hook yer site up! make it crazy n'stupid (which werks fer me, as im both). personalize it!! you'll instantly set your site (and yourself) apart from others, which'll automatically make your site memorable and fun!

UBBDEV: What do you have planned for your site?
RK:
well, my site was just re-re-relaunched in october of 2000, but, my attention span is short, and, ill probably redo it again within another 6 months. i also hope to add more of my virtual portfolio (a faster modem would help!!!). i've already sent up a 14 MB gargoyle animation i did in 3d studio, which i am really proud of. but, i wanna add mo'. currently, im workin on various flash-based "webisodes," including some batman:the animated series cartoons i've created. im hopin stuff like this will trick--er--impress someone enough to higher me :) with a job, comes money. with money, comes a happier rob. and with a happier rob, comes better websites :)
