Our second place winner shines with a balanced number of modifications and his own audio/link modification. Take the time to check out: http://www.emceearena.com/.

This is a great example of developing a site to suit the needs of users and exchange ideas and music. BlackHaze has created an atomosphere that compliments his mood and style as well as opening a window so creative artists can share with each other ... Mastermind caught up with BlackHaze to find out just what goes into emceearena.com.

UBBDEV:
Let's start with a little "behind the scenes" information on yourself. What is your background and how long have you been on the web?

BlackHaze: I've been on the web for close to a year, and have been doing my page around 4 or 5 month's, but just recently started getting into it and increasing features on my bulletin board, as well as features on my site.

UBBDEV: How did you come up with the idea for emcee arena?

BlackHaze: Me and a few friends of mind had a idea to start a page, for Emcee's to come and rap, or write there feeling's on rap and other culture's of hip-hop , and i was the one that decided to go ahead with it and start the site, and see if I could succeed where we planned.

UBBDEV: Why did you choose the UBB over other forum software?

BlackHaze: Well I had a freeware version of the UBB for a good while, and knew most of the ability’s it had, especially the full version. After checking out other forums first I saw UBB had the most feature's and add-on's out of other rival software, and I knew that for what I had in mind and the way I wanted to set my forum's up it would be the best forum to purchase in order to bring out the certain style I wanted to have on emceearena.

UBBDEV: What do you like and dislike most about the ubb?

BlackHaze: How people can access your control panel no matter what you do, I've had several hack's and hack attempt's even after changing my control panel link's but most people that own bulletin board's know the action's and can easily get in.

UBBDEV: Are there any "tricks of the trade" you'd like to share that any ubb owner can use to improve the success of their site?

BlackHaze:
The most I can say, is if your going to modify your board's with extra feature's, more is not always better. Sometimes people add alot of hacks not acknowledging the fact that it may be just to much in some cases. Many Ubb's like to go for alot of hack's to show that they know how to modify forums, but then have a page that's just very slow, and confusing for average people.

UBBDEV: What is your favorite UBB hack?

BlackHaze: I would have to say a somewhat custom profile addition I added, since my site is dedicated to emcee's I added a profile field and equipped it with sort of a "user's homepage" feel but it's for them to type in real audio's of them rapping (if they have them) and then it's accessible by a bar under the post. On ubb_lib some what similar to the divider on the UBB 6 version.

UBBDEV: What do you do to keep your site fresh and keep people coming back for more?

BlackHaze:
Well I'm not officially open, but if I had to choose anything that make's the visitor's I have now come back, it would have to be the user friendly interface, the interaction I put in with the user's, as well as them coming back just to see what's next, or what else I've added today..

UBBDEV: Be sure to take some time to check out this cool hip-hop site at http://www.emceearena.com/. :-) We would like to thank BlackHaze for taking the time to share his story and information with us and the members of the UBBDEV community.
