Our first month's second place site is - CyberPoetry.

|
| The site that came
in second place was no slouch itself. Cyber_Poetry
Forums, the baby of UBBDev member C_P,
is very easy on the eyes, and packed with just the
right amount of modifications to keep his users
coming back for more. The
following interview, done by none-other-than Mastermind,
delves into the brains behind this beauty of a site:
|
Q: How long have you been on the web?
A: Far too long.. 3+ years
Q: How did you come up with the design for Cyber Poetry?
A: I based it loosely on an idea I have for redoing my main site. The color scheme is drawn from there, as well as the overall feel. soft tones, soft fonts, making it easy on the eyes. Hopefully promoting people to return, and stay longer.

Q: Why did you choose UBB?
A: After looking at all the other options, it made the most sense. I tend to follow suit, when I saw larger sites/companies using it, it was a no-brainer. The coding is somewhat user friendly, (I knew zip about perl/c before purchasing it.) and easy to customize. Not just the "hacks or mod" ability, back
then not many existed. I started around 5.25, and never looked back. (Back then we were thrilled with flaming
folders... LOL)
Q: What are your tips to other webmasters about design and style?
A: As for style and design, the look must be consistent, clean, and
coordinated. Little things, subtle touches make the overall look and feel work. Don't be afraid to talk to your members, after all they use it! Their feedback is valuable. that is why I went to text links instead of icons (edit post etc..)

Q: How do you keep visitors coming back?
A: Simply put, CONTENT! All the flash and glitz will only help draw oooohs and awwwww's, but to build a community, takes much more. Make your board, easy to navigate, well governed, and respond to the needs of your members. I would rather have a few hundred dedicated members than a few thousand zero posters. Many people will find your board daily, how it is run and appears is crucial to people joining.
Q: What's your favorite UBB hack?
A: Wellllllllllll, I would have to say CYMPM, the time and effort put into it, and the unique way of making a needed add-on was (IMHO) and excellent addition.
Q: How did you come up with the style for Cyber Poetry?
A: I just looked inside. As a writer myself, I wanted the members to relax, socialize and build strong ties within their community. I am proud to say we have poets from around the world, it makes for a unique blend of insight and cultural diversity. The one thing we each stress there is this is a nurturing environment, not one to make fun of others. Poetry is very personal and feelings can be damaged quickly by needless
criticism. We try to guide and help those wishing to find there voice in verse.

In all it has been a unique experience, one that has helped me grow personally and professionally. The use of the UBB has enhanced and enabled that progression, for which I'd like to thank Ted and the gang at InfoPop, and all the talented programmers contributing to the enhancement and development of this program.
Regards,
C_P
