If I create a new script, can I just upload it to the scripts directory, on the server?

Or would I have to make it go through an upgrade process for it to work properly?

I'm confused why you'd run the upgrade process for adding a new script... 3rd party scripts generally have nothing to do the stock forum files

Ok thanks, yea, I have no idea how this stuff works

If I make a mistake in the php script, can it crash the database?

The only way it would hose the database would be if you modded something that adds to it.
If you are modding a script that just runs a query then the script will crash if it is incorrect.
