A few self hosting questions to Del.icio.us Add to del.icio.us
Digg A few self hosting questions Digg it
I just want to do some self hosting so i can learn a few new languages like cgi/perl/java. i've hosted befor using OmniHTTP and it wasn't that bad... But i'm sure there are better programs... Also keep in mind i'm using WindowsXP Pro

First Question - If money is not a factor whats the best self hosting program you can get.

Second Question - When money is a factor whats the best program you can get for a reasonable price.

Third Question - When your completely broke whats the best free one around.

Forth Question - Where would i find the install files for the most common file types support (php, cgi, perl etc etc... ) and doesn't Frontpage XP/2002 come with the extentions... i dunno...

Fifth Question - Anyone have any good suggestions or tips i should know...

I must absolutely waste my time when I carefully outline the steps necessary in order to set up a local server.

In response to your questions numbered one through five, read every word I typed in the post I linked to above. For your fourth question, the answer is yes and yes .

It is a standard for interfacing external applications with information servers. A CGI program can be written in any language that allows it to be executed on the system, e.g.: C, Perl, VB, etc.

Sorry for getting mad at you, it's just that this is the second post of its kind today alone, and I already explained everything one time through. Coming soon to a browser near you: Matt Jacob's Local Server Setup Tutorial.
