and

venturesonline.com

Both are good host but Why would they ban the use of UBB?

I used venturesonline, and emailed john burns about it. Here's what he said.

I'd say It's CPU Cycles that are bogging the server down. They do it all the time.

That and maybe because we banned him from here because he was being an eejit...:)

6.1 reduces the main performance bottle-neck in the 6.0x series by a huge amount.

No, they had some major problems with perl scripts the server's load was going up too 200, so they decided it best to kill that off.. And I'm sure the ban helped too laugh laugh

Ah, the joys of hosts who can't administrate their own servers. *sigh*

They're not the first, and probably won't be the last. Packing a thousand people on one machine and expecting it to perform well is just plain wrong. Quality hosts simply won't let a situation like that develop in the first place!

And they expect MySQL to be a cureall... HAH! Watch their poor servers melt down again....

From what I have seen from this issue it looks to be the Win32 & IIS based servers that have the most problems. I haven't come across a UBB 6 running on a *nix box which has hogged all the CPU load. I spoke to a couple of ISP's here in the UK earlier about this, and they said that they haven't had any of the CPU load problems with users running high usage UBB v6's.

It's all in the I/O.

We ARE aware that UBB has some pretty serious issues, and are taking steps to reduce I/O in future releases.

If you have ANY questions or concerns about this, please email celeste@infopop.com rather than post here. Thanks!
