The new name and face of Firebird was released earlier today. http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox Personally I think the browser is good, but the name is terrible. Then again, just like most names, I'll probably grow to like it. What's your opinion on either the browser or its new name?

Did I miss something or does Firefox not have an email link, to open the mail program?

I think firebir.. err.. FOX is just the standalone browser, thrunderbird is the email program. You'll have to download that, or else download Mozilla 1.6 which comes with a mail program. I may be wrong of course... that happens sometimes.

Since Firebird/fox is the browser portion of Mozilla, it could sort of be thought of as a child of Mozilla. Therefore, in my opinion, it should be called Mozuki. I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader as to why (hint: you needed to be watching cartoons in the early to mid-80's) --mark

I dunno, I've been on the Moz 1.8 nightly builds for a while. I've tried Firefox at home, but I seem to like real Mozilla better. Some of the things in Firefox are well...different. Then again, I've been using Mozilla since 0.8 so I'm a bit biased

The reason I don't use firefox is due to it crashing with Ensim... As I use ensim at work it's a PITA when all my tab's close when i'm in the middle of working on a server...
Cause: when using "log out" or rebooting a server from the Ensim UI firefox will crash as soon as it loads the logout page... Mozilla works fine on it however...

Firefox is nowhere near as good on a mac as it is on a windows box. Camino seems half decent though. Still messing with it.

I upgraded to .9 about an hour after it was released. Sadly, I rolled back to .8 about 4 hours after upgrading to .9 after realising that .9 was probably rushed to get it out less than a week later than anticipated, so it was still quite buggy. There were still bugs nominated to block its release, for crying out loud, why did they release it?
This is probably the first Moz release that I've actually felt disappointed with.

I wasn't impressed with firefox one bit; i mean if the browser crashes when loging out of an ensim enviroment it can't be used by me as all of our servers use them...

The demo isn't a live setup; it's just a look alike with redirects sadly so it woudln't replicate the issue. I may test it out later on when i get some time and things calm down at work

I'm checkin out the latest version and it looks like they may have finally pounded out the issue with Ensim! (hadn't set a server reboot request yet, but then again i don't do those that often)... I also notice that a new version of mozilla is out so I also upgraded that... All in all I've always been impressed with the Mozilla line; two of my favorite browsers and i have minimal issues with them... Great work ...

I love Firefox, but I've noticed some weird things that happen with UBB:
1 - it seems to have trouble logging out. I'll log out of my board, and it says "logged out," but when I return I'm still logged in.
2 - new message lights are erratic
3 - (most annoying) if there are a lot of graphics on the page, it won't load the page all the way to the bottom until it's finished loading the graphics. On a UBB thread, this means that you don't see the newest posts or the reply box until it has loaded everything else. (It also happens with other non-UBB sites too.)
I don't have these problems on MSIE, and I imported my MSIE settings when I installed it. Has anyone else noticed these things?

actually that's probably caused by using frames with your ubb quote: [qb]2 - new message lights are erratic[/qb] actually that's probably caused by using frames with your ubb quote: 3 - (most annoying) if there are a lot of graphics on the page, it won't load the page all the way to the bottom until it's finished loading the graphics. Firefox has never done that for me on any site I've visited. I actually find it loads things a little faster than IE

nope, it's not frames. I have the same problem without frames, and in fact, I just tried logging out on this board, and the same thing happened -- I logged out, even shut down the browser, opened a new browser, and came back in, and here I am posting.
It might have something to do with my configuration of Firefox, but I can't imagine what.

I got it about 3 weeks ago, give or take a few days. It's a 15 nch powerbook with 1 gig of RAM. I never would have imagined I'd have a Mac, but once I realised that a computer is a computer is a computer there became no reason not to. It's still UNIX with a different front end on it. I can run KDE on it if I really flle like I'm lost.

Firefox flies into over drive http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=20453 Is it a bird... is it a plane..? By INQUIRER staff: Thursday 30 December 2004, 22:09 Tyan Tomcat i7221 Server board ASK ANY OF FIREFOX'S avid supporters and they'll tell you it's the fastest browser around, true or not. Well, the INQ's stumbled on a little tweak that's easy to do and sends the browser into overdrive. All you've got to do is type "about:config" into your address bar, wait for it to load, then alter the following entries: change "network.http.pipelining" to "true", "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" and lastly "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to 30, meaning it will be able to make 30 requests at once. Don't bother if you're one of the unlucky sods still without broadband, but if you are, then give it a shot. I've tried it out and it works like a charm. Thanks to forevergeek.com! ų ================================================== Tried it here at work. Seems to help some. *shrug*

you can also set browser.turbo.enabled to true it will speed up things and reduce the memory used
Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by again?

Some other very worth while extensions are:
BBCode - Adds BBCode to the context menu for forums. BookmarkSynchronizer - Sync your bookmarks across all your computers. VERY USEFUL! downTHEMall! - Download all images on a page based on their extension and other settings. AutoMarks - Use the location bar to autocomplete URLs from your bookmarks! VERY USEFUL! Image Zoom - Adds zoom functionality to images Tiny URL - Easily create TinyURLs of the page your viewing from with in firefox CopyURL+ - Copy the URL of the current page along with the title or the selected text. FirefoxView - If you still use IE sometimes this will allow you to select a link to open in Firefox.
Sorry, I don't have time right now to grab the links for all of them so you'll need to google their names.

Plain Text Links - if there is a url that isn't hyperlinked, you can just highlight it and open it in a new tab
Adblock - Best Ad Blocker Ever
Webdeveloper
Tabbrowser preferences - preferences for tabs

Firefox growth is checked "The growth in popularity of Firefox appears to have been checked for the time being. For the first time since its November 2004 release, the Web browser's share of total Internet usage fell." What's up with that? Word of security exploits slowing down adoption?

beta 3 is out. One thing I am liking about IE7 is that when you minimize it to the tray, it releases memory back into the wild. I have had 13 tabs open all day now and the memory was up to 173mb I minimized it to the bottom and memory went down to 11mb Right now memory is at 55mb after pulling it back up. Firefox is using more than 66mb after being open less than 7 minutes.

I fear that these improvements with IE7 will either make FFox listen to the outcry of memory usage, or break the cammel's back...
