Heya,

I'm learning perl, and atm I have O'Reillys Programming Perl which is a great book and all, but reads more as a reference than anything. A book of example scripts etc. would be a helpful companion for it IMO.

Does anyone have any recommendations ?

So far I've been looking at :

O'Reillys Perl Cookbook

Perl by Example by Ellie Quigley

The Perl Black Book by S. Holzner

Any suggestions welcome wink

Thanks

I'm also starting out in Perl and I am reading Perl For Dummies first. It looks like the best beginner's book of all of the ones I've seen. smile

CGI 101 is one I used to have, it was good... you can order it online at:
http://www.cgi101.com/class/order.html
but I don't know if they sell it in book stores.

I dont understand you americans tipsy how can you buy a book named " .. for dummies" ? tipsy

if you want script examples, there are a lot of free scripts to examine. If you want to program in perl, then there are nice perl books from O'Reilly and Manning... Dont buy a book only named 'CGI', I didnt see a good book named like this tipsy

Mrs. Quigley was one of my professors (for the Perl course, of course) during my Unix Admin certification... I'll vouch for her book. smile

The Cookbook is more technical than not. Avoid it until you've learned Perl.

And of course, Learning Perl is good. wink

Perl for Dummies is considered *THE WORST* Perl book... period.

Agreed. I bought it and looked at it for two days and took it back... it was really bad... that's when I went and bought the CGI 101 book, which taught me basically everything I know about Perl. But that book's long gone... I think I gave it to my dad to take to his work (they were having perl problems on their site), and I never did get it back. Oh well.
