There has been a lot of discussion of mod_gzip on this board in the past We have it on all of the infopop servers. The UBBAccelerator takes advantage ot the gzip functions native to php.
Picture perfect penmanship here.

It goes back to cgi unless the page is in your cache, then it will load as php If it's running, then you most-likely installed correctly cgi_buffer does mainly the same thing

If you have mod_gzip installed, disable the compression on your PHP files - it's redundant and you're just wasting precious clock cycles.

My host finally upgraded the PHP(whatever) stuff. I can now stop using my custom made .cgi accelerator and use the built in one. Oh happy day!

Ahhh, this thread reminded me to install the module. I don't have the PHP accelerator in use, since I guess some of the stuff I've done to my board screw it up, but nonetheless, I did just get mod_gzip rockin and woooo the difference is quite noticable. And I see nice 90% compression rates in the logs Hip hip horray
can't find peace of mind but every corner's got a mcdonalds?!

I installed Allen's hack on my board, and instead of 26942 bytes, it's 5042 bytes!

Sent the host an e-mail, a few mins later: quote: Hi,
Thanks for your e-mail.
I'm afraid that we do not support mod_gzip as we have seen it cause greater load problems that running UBB on it's own.
Please do not hesitate to e-mail back if you require any further assistance.
