Making a "UBB chat room" is rather moot, since the UBB is a bulletin board, not general community software. Just go to yahoo (or google) and search for "chat rooms", or "chat". There are many free and shareware chat programs available for use.

Yes, but most of them suck.
It would be nice if there were one that could take advantage of the UBB user database. Maintaining a decent user database is a fair amount of work, and it'd be nice to not have to do everything twice.
Has anyone encountered a chat program that meshes will with their UBB?
I am currently using a java front end to an IRC channel, but using IRC opens a whole world of pain that you wouldn't get in a "closed system" like the UBB.
I guess the UBB has just spoiled me, but there must be some chat software out there that:
1. Doesn't suck. 2. Allows you to register users in a manner similar to the UBB (or even better, use its database!). 3. Doesn't require a download of third-party software on the client side.
Well, I guess it might not exist, but it's worth asking for, I guess...
I am not at all opposed to spending money on a decent chat system...I just have't found one yet!
Check the DataBase for the HearMe Voice/Text Chat Hack. there are a couple of different versions that i have seen. I believe one of them forces the User to be Registered on your UBB to use the Chat application. It reads in your Member Cookie, and uses your UBB Member name for your Chat handle.
Also, the HearMe Software is Totaly ServerSide. It is embeded with a Small JavaScript. so its No strain on Your server, and its Fast loading and easy to use. theres not much of a Room Moderation system tho.
But, its worth a try if you REALLY want a Chat app on your BBS.

That definitely sounds worth checking out, thanks.
Moderation isn't as important as being able to kick out people permanently. The kids will behave themselves if they know they can be forever banned from both the chat room and the forum for not playing nice.
I've also been searching for the Digichat but noboby seems to have it. Does someone have the hearme/text chat hack? Why it's not in the database anymore?
For us it was a toss-up between ChatBlazer and DigiChat. I think they are pretty close, but DigiChat appears to be a little more feature-rich, and has a prettier interface. I am in the final stages of testing the ChatBlazer implementation on my site, with direct log in, nickname assigned from your cookie....pretty basic really, but it worked a treat last night. I'll post back when it is fully operational...right now I turn it on for testing and bug-hunting!!
As far as HearME goes, you may want to consider something else. I got an email the other day saying they were going to do away with Hearme..... I will post the email if I can remember when I get home...Some other company is taking their biz with a different product...

Just making this clear dont install HEAR ME VOICE CHAT. Dosent work anymore as of yesterday. I need something for my board now My users got used to the chat and now there asking why. I havent removed the here me script yet Im waiting to see whats out there but I wont it cookie related too.
OK! So I don't try to install the hearme chat if it's not working anymore. If someone could make a chat which would check the UBB database for member info and name i would be -->
I'm looking for a chat addon that would use the UBB member database so the user needs to be registered to the UBB to be able to chat.. So those chats are not what I'm looking for.
I'm just looking for a simple chat application that allows you to restrict access via a user database (an interface to the UBB database would be cool, but is not vital).
I don't need multiple rooms, the ability to change fonts, send files, etc. ...like I said before, I just really want "the UBB of chat apps", if such a thing exists.
