Okay, so this isn't a hack to UBB, but it's an interface that extracts the 5 most recent posts to your UBB, and outputs them using SSI. I still have some tweaking to do, but it works good. There is still a problem when someone posts after midnight and the dailyindex file gets cleared...so I need to fix that. Here are two demos:

My inspiration was, of course, what you see on the frontpage of this site...and if this script already exists, well at least I learned how all the UBB info is stored.

Oops, I noticed another problem. When you make a followup post to a thread that is still displayed in the last 5 listing, it changes all occurences to the same time, date, and member info.

Guess that's why it's in the beta area. I'll clean it up some tonight.

Ooo, that's a nice one too, thanks. The toughest part was finding where UBB stores all the recent post data. I admit that my code is pretty simplistic, but hey, I just started teaching myself perl and I try not to get too fancy. I used to program like a madman in FORTRAN, QuickBasic, PL/1, and a little VisualBasic back in the day...this is some of the first programming I've done in years.

Is Dave's script above listing in the database here? Because I didn't run across one that does what my script does, that's why I wrote my own. As I said before, I'll clean it up (see todo list in actual listing link above) and you can post it to the database.
