Ok, you all know I've been shoving the "NEVER EVER EVER EVER DELETE AN ENTRY FROM THE FORUMS.CGI FILE OR A FORUM# DIRECTORY" down people's throats for ages now.

With good reason - doing either of the above can seriously FUBAR your UBB.

"Experts" can do it.... It's dangerous, but isn't incredibly difficult.

I have devised a small utility that can delete a forum successfully, and if there are no file permission problems, safely too. Yeah, there's a difference...

I am currently adding permission and read/write checks to it. When that's done, I'll release it as a BETA. That will be done tonight, unless I run into problems with private forums. (I do anticipate problems... There have been some changes in recent versions which I have been unable to comprehend... yet.)

I need volunteers who have expendable UBBs. Meaning that you wouldn't terribly mind if the UBB that you'll be testing this on does indeed become FUBARed.

For those that don't know what FUBAR is... F@#$ed Up Beyond All Repair... And I'm in no way kidding, if this thing malfunctions, your UBB WILL be FUBARed. Majorly. <IMG SRC="http://ubbdev.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>

Send it over.. It would be great to have a nice way to get rid of fourms. My friend just Fubared his UBB by Nuking ALL the form dir's. I had to spend 25min to reinstall his UBB. So a nice tool would be great.

I don't mind doing some beta testing for you Charlie, I have an expendable board that I only use for development so I can always install it on that. The hack is nearly finished... I'm adding still more safeguards. I want to make sure NOTHING screws up.

Please note that it will NOT delete a forum if doing so would result in you having less than nine - this is to maintain compatability with possible legacy coding within the UBB.

Ok, the main problem that has been run into is simple... I can't seem to get it to delete private forums. If I can't fix this problem by this time tomorrow, I'll release it without that funciton. So far my tests have been generally positive...

I've decided to make this a bit harder on all of you. I don't want to make it so easy to delete a forum. Thus, I've mostly converted the script into a telnet application. Meaning you must be able to telnet into your host. Sorry, NT people, and those on free hosts...

Once the bugs are worked out, if any, I'll release it, then convert it to work through the web.

Off to work again... More problems with private forums!

I wanted to assure any NT users out there that though you may see a DOS prompt in that text file, he's probably running it locally...so you still need telnet to run it, unless you have ready and direct access to the server.

Anonymous: This means you upload the script via FTP, then execute it via telnet... If you're not comfortable with telnet, DON'T use the script.

This project has been pernemently placed onto the backburner.

The script works fine, however I simply do not feel that the majority of users are ready to use it. It is a VERY powerful tool, and like my username rewrite script which will forever be public beta, it has the destructive potential to cause your UBB to melt down into green goo, never to recover again.

Not that the hack would be used for very long - UBB6 uses a different method of storing forum information that allows forum deletion. It's the only known feature of UBB6 so far... Just a matter of waiting for it, guys.

I'm closing this since there is no need for it, plus its a few months old.
