someone requested this script in the german support forum; because the guy who made some sort of 'buddies online' (Marti) didn't reply and doesn't want to share his script yet, i did for myself. i have to clean up the code and add some more little features, but you may like to give it a try:

Before releasing the beta I'll have a look to the instantMessange, maybe i'm going to include it even i don't have installed the IM anymore ... at this time i'm working on including the ICQ-pager as well as the tracking what your buddies are doing on your board... so maybe it's going to be a nice replacement for the 'who is online'-script: if u switch off the buddylist.cgi it turns to a 'normal' who is online-thing; maybe i'm including the ip-adresses viewable for admins/moderators as well ..

Any ideas or suggestions? well, i enjoy reading that u like it so far

well guys, the script seems to work fine on some boards out there (shouts to the webmasters for their quick work); i'm still waiting for some feature-suggestions to include 'em as soon as possible;

I was asked to remove the header/footer-files; so i'm going to have a look at these scripts again... also I simply forgot to translate some German stuff and have to redo the color-scheme...

Just right now we're doing some sort of experiments using SSI building an javaScript-InstantMessenger into this FriendsOnline-system but due the fact that there are so many requests I'm going to release the nonSSI/nonJavaScript-0.9d-Version during the next days...

hi there,
because i do NOT have installed the instantMessanger i need some of you beta-testing persons out there to check the script for any bugs:
this is NOT the final version, has been working so far on a couple of boards without any problems and it is in GERMAN! the only thing for me to know are two new 'features':

a) does the instantMessenger thing work?
b) does it display a memberlist-button in case you do have installed this addOn? does the link to this addOn work?
c) any more suggestions?

I'm going to translate this addOn as soon as any bug has been fixed and I'm going to redo some of the graphics...

I already added memberlist/instant messenger to 0.9c so that was not new to me. It looks pretty good also.

Here is another suggestion, you could have an icon where the profile / email / www , etc is and have a 'Add Buddy' type icon and it would link to $CGIURL/buddyadd.cgi?sendto=$name so you can quickly add buddys to your list and will help show users to use the list more.

Thats all my suggestions and comments as of now. So far i have not seen any bugs or whatnot but will look more into it. I think the code could be cleaned up a bit more to make it run more effiently thou.

I'm still anticipating this hack. Here's a suggestion. Maybe allow sound.wav notifications of when a buddy is on the UBB.. And maybe a popup window when a buddy is on the UBB with options like "Email buddy, PM, AIM, ICQ, YAHOO, or like some device to directly chat with that buddy using somekind of IP messenger if possible."

This is probably to hard, but it'd be pretty nice.. Anyways, I hope you release this soon...

I'm just curious how the header/footer remove is going?

Well, we're having a slight problem with Netscape right now and i NEED some beta-testers out there who installed the IM and Memberlist-Hack ... so, please, drop me an email and I'll send you the files.

The dhtml-Menu works quite nice so the online-system looks like some sort of 'ICQ'-Clone

We do have loads of future plans right now, so .. well, "it's just the beginning"

Well, I have to fix a bug for this crappy netscape concerning the dhtml-mouseMenu (i'm going mad with this); I'm also going to write a little help-text and to clean the code... well, i'll let you know as soon as i've finished this hack.
