Sorry for advertising here, delete my post if you want to. But I thought some of you may be interested in this, so here goes...

Over the past few months in my spare time I've been writing an RPG-style game in PHP/MySQL. And I finally finished it today. It is a web-based tribute to the old NES game, Dragon Warrior. And its loads of fun.

So if anyone just wants to play it, click this linkey thing right here. Or, if you have a game-oriented site (or just want to add a game to your own site) you can download the source and install it on your own server with this linkey thing instead.

Enjoy.

I signed up, and played for about 10 mins, but it was kinda boring. I've never played a game like this before. What exactly is the point of it? (not trying to be rude at all, just not sure what I'm suppossed to be doing)

its like a mud. People may have been too young to remember that there were actually text based games BEFORE graphical games... like Zork and early Muds...

Yeah, there's no graphics or anything, per se... So it is kinda boring unless you're into that type of stuff. The point is to walk around and kill monsters so you gain levels and get money to buy stuff with.

Leather Goddess of Phobos, I had to decifer a message that was encrypted. Luckily I was taking BASIC at the time and my work book had a deciphering routine in it. I ran the message thru it, and got:

"Identify yourself to the hairum girl by asking her to kiss your knee caps!"

LOL

Yeah I played and got to experience 100 or something. I think it could be inproved with a map. I know you can buy a map but it is kinda hard to figure where your going without one and you don't have enough money to buy one if you want something to fight with etc.

JC: S'all good. The game was made with nostalgia in mind, what would be the point in stopping people from talking about it?

Omegatron: I kept meaning to put a little map image in there at some point, but never really got around to it. My logic was, the whole thing is just one big square. And at the beginning, you're gonna want to stick pretty close to Midworld anyway. Once you've gotten enough exp to start moving farther out, you should have enough gold to buy the early maps too. But I'll see what I can do about making a map image that at least shows the general location of the towns.

Gardener: Glad you like it.

Some of those monsters in Midworld stomp you down early on. I think I died 3 times before I was able to make it up a level. Its really hard to earn money when you keep dying and don't have enough gold(because of the dying) to heal.

Fun game though. Anyone ever play "The Uninvited". I got to a point in that game that I spent hours trying to move forward without anything even trying to kill me. Hitchhiker reminds of that game. One of these days I'll figure out how to actually walk through the door. That day, is not today.

I love the old Dragon Warrior series. I had 1 through 4 on the NES. I still play them every now and then on my PC. I'm playing your Dragon Knight now and it's bringing back memories of Dragon Warrior. I can even hear the music!
