...do I need to modify to change around the positioning of the reged + number of posts fields, as well as the edit/reply buttons when viewing a thread?

showflat.tmpl and showthreaded.tmpl. I think.

 If you look at my site, I've changed them around some. I have taken out the post count and moved the title (which is an image on my site). I have also messed around a little with the table layouts, though they're not as obvious.
