Hello all
This idea comes from my board which is getting crowded. Reaching 11K members, with 3K of members logged in everyday.
When you have a crowded board, then the chance to have losers join in is pretty high.
They post with something that most members don't like. Something like they way they are talking or provoking others to make the situation hot.
When we ban or delete their usernames, they will re-register again and start doing it again.
We wish there is a mod to ignore these losers. Here is how it works. The losers will be able to post and stuff like normal members can do, BUT they are ignored. Other members do not see the message on the board from these losers, but the losers do.
Or,
members are able to ignore someone post from the board.
I hope it clears.
Thanks guys

The theory sounds simple enough. But that's all I'm really good for since I'm no PHP guru. Gurus, would it be possible to put a snippet of code in the loop in showflat.tmpl and showthreaded.tmpl that will look to see if the poster's member number matches any in a list (block list)of the member requesting the page, and if so to not process that post and to just move on? Of course, this would require another field in the database. Conversely, you could start banning partial IPs on your Threads install, or even better, banning partial IPs using .htaccess so they can't even access your site or sections of it. At least, until a mod or feature comes about.

It's been discussed; but not something anyone has coded as yet.

Well, I'm thinking of tackling this one. Basically my thoughts are:
- put an ignore icon on every post. its a link to an ignoreuser.php which basically appends the userid onto the end of a string (TEXT field, "userid, userid, userid") - read the users IgnoreUser field when doing a showflat or showthreaded - if userid of post is in ignoreuser array, skip -OR- replace body with "User is on your ignore list, click here to unignore this user
Seems simple enough - am I missing anything obvious?

I suck at graphics - someone want to make an ignore icon and I'll do the code?

Okay, I've coded this and am using it on: http://www.viperalley.comI'll work on documenting it for the Modifications area. Here's how it works: 1) If there is a user who's posts you do not want to read; click on their name to bring up their profile. 2) Click on the option "Ignore This User" (if you are already ignoring them, then it will say "Unignore This User". All user info is removed (no avatar, no info, etc.) 3) When you read a post which contains something from that user, you'll get a small block that says "You are ignoring this user. See entire thread or unignore this user." You can click on the "see entire thread" to see what they posted without "unignoring them"; or you can elect to start seeing that users threads again by clicking on the unignore this user link.
