I got this idea from some discussions some people on the Honorable Players have had recently concerning the censoring/profanity filters in UBB.Threads. There's a desire to see that the site is publically/High School friendly, but a significant number of people also think that we're adults, and self-moderation is preferred; yet, when someone DOES choose to use a certain term to make a point, we can get annoyed with the censoring feature.<br /><br />So, would it be possible to get a mod (or a future version addition) that would allow admins/mods to set whether or not individual boards would use the censoring feature? Another good idea to consider might be the option to allow individual users to choose whether or not they want to view posts with the censoring feature enabled (of course, the very option's availability should be able to be controlled by Admins).<br /><br />So, anyone else think this would be a worthwhile addition/modification? If so, anyone want to take a crack at it (or is something like this already out there)?<br /><br />

Restricting it by board would be easier... .because the post is stored censored. To do it on a user basis would require processing it every time it displayed which would slow stuff down alot, but I think it would be fairly simply to define boards that are censored. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

How about using the censor words define if the post should be moderated or not. That is, if the post contains something from the badwords file, it is set as moderated, and a mod/admin will have to approve it before it is viewable by normal users.

That could probably be adapted easily by using some code from my private moderation hack. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
