I have been trying for a while now to find a place so I can sell banner space...... I have been turned down by quite a few places with not much explanation..... The site averages around 20-30k hits a day so it's not a slow site but not majorly busy either........ Most of the little explanations I have received are because they don't like message board / chat sites...... I run a chatsite that has a message board...... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I have seen other sites like mine that have been excepted..... Anyone have any ideas of places to try??

Hi,<br /><br />We have recently added a banner system as well, and looking at our clickthrough rates I can understand that these companies do not want to use your space. The CTRs are abysmal to say the least (think 0.2-0.3%).<br /><br />We do have a couple of advertisers, although the majority are just free banners for our sponsors. Almost all of the banners are for companies with the same target audience as my board. Maybe you could find similar companies?<br /><br />Sanuk!<br />

That is what I would also recomend. Target a few specific companies to sponsor you. Those general banner ad systems are not like they used to be, it is hard to make anything off them.<br /><br />Since my site is fairly local, I have talked to a few businesses in the state and we may be working out a small ad campaign on the index page, offer them a little button/banner in return for a monthly fee. <br /><br />Unless the site is huge with a wide variety of users most generic ads won't do much good, so if they can be targeted they will be much more effective and people will be willing to pay you for the ad <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
