Ok, so I have a problem. On one of my sites my host "disabled" one of my databases due to being a resource hog.. or some other BS.

So, they inform me to continue using it, I need to get a dedicated server. Well.. no, I will not be getting a dedicated server with them, and am getting one elsewhere. So anyway, even in phpMyAdmin I can't see the database.

I am praying to god it hasn't been deleted and only somehow disabled or moved or something. So, since it will take ages to hear back from them about the issue, I have shell access so I wanted to just go in and find it myself and copy it to my HD, but I can't find it.

The "locate" db is too old, it isn't showing anything, so I was wondering where these are usually stored? Or if this would even be possible?

The "default" would be in the "data" subdirectory of the location where MySQL resides in.
Each database in it's own directory (same name as the database).

But I'm not familiar with multi-user setups and don't know how the structure would be in that case.

Edit: Sorry, I'm talking about the default structure on Windows based servers, not Unix.

On my server, it's /var/lib/mysql

I think I used the default settings when installing MySQL.

The files are owned by either 'mysql' or 'root', and are not public-read, so you might have trouble accessing them directly.

You might be able to backup the database with mysqldump.
