Since posts are uniquely identified by the post number, why is the "Board=" parameter needed in the URL for showflat.php and showthreaded.php ? The problem is that when you save a link to a thread, and then the thread gets moved to a different board, the link becomes invalid. If the Board parameter were not required, then this problem wouldn't occur.

For me the links of moved threads still work. But if you click on the "index" link you come back to the board that is specified into the (old) "Board=" parameter, not to the board where the thread has been moved to.
So, yes, maybe this parameter can be removed?

Right now the Board parameter is used to grab some info about the board and to check if the user should be in that particular board before pulling up the post. Without it being passed in the link then we'd need to do a query at the very start to find out what board that particular post is on before going on to other things. Hopefully that makes some sense

Sort of. But doesn't that query have to be done in any case? And since it does, why not just get the board keyword from the query? After all, the user could modify the URL and change the Board= to whatever he wants anyway.

It does need to be done anyway, but right now it's done later in the script after the other queries are done. Basically, yes this could probably be modified so the Board parameter isn't needed, but right now it is needed until the queries are restructured
