Hi,

I updated the FAQ once again (URL to the update see below):
* New V.6 Farbcodes are included, so this FAQ is not
compatible to older THREADS versions any more.
* German Explanations to added links REGELN(rules) and
COOKIES (links can be simply deleted if not wanted.)

The reason: I needed an extra page that explains cookies.
And I found it unneccessary to have more than one spot
where the rules are (FAQ and Threads-Rules page
at register, for example) so I wrote my own and just
linked to it from the various spots.

* XHTML: I am aware that the FAQ still has some improper
XHTML code. That will be subject of a later update.
Hints are welcome, I am not that fit in xtml yet

The link to the update: FAQ German - latest version always here !!

I'm sorry, I don't want to offend anybody but this German FAQ is now included in the official 6.0 version, but I don't like it at all. It is totally non standard compared to the other language FAQ files and it refers to missing documents. contact_d.html and 1 or 2 more. These documents can partly be found on the homepage of the author, but I think it should not be referring to html in the first place.
I would rather see an approved version of the original faq back.

Regards,

Ron.

First of all: There is no approved version of a German FAQ!
The old one only had half of the Q&A and was from a really early version of Threads from years ago.

(And the current English one had no structure at all with the questions. I personally don't think that an inexperienced user with questions would read this wall of questions.)

Why don't you take the English FAQ and write a German one yourself? It would be interesting. And anybody can choose what style he/she would prefer. In German there are actually 2 FAQs and 2 language files needed, one for the informal German (Duzen) and one for the formal German (Siezen). You see there is plenty of room for improvement.

B.t,w. that's what the German board is ment for.
Feel free to join us and help to make that FAQ(s) really good.

Mine was put here as a hack, to give other users an idea how I think a good FAQ should be like. And to get comments (like your's) on it, to further improve it. Not more not less. And this board is for experienced users, anyway.
Unfortunately there were no comments.

I found it now unchanged in the release version despite the comments I made to the two external links that need to be either killed or used with own content. Well. And not the latest version was taken here but an earlier one, where some things had not been so well documented about the few things that I did different from the "standard"

It is always easy to complain. It is much better to help to make this really good and come up with and discuss either alternative FAQs or give feedback on this one so that we can discuss it here.

Greetings from Berlin

Hi,

I still think "us translators" should try to do our localisations without changing the layout. A translation has nothing to do with the layout of a document.
This new faq you made is not according the English standard faq and that is why I don't like it.
I would be able to do this myself as I did for the Dutch localisation of UBB threads which is included in the official 6.0 package as well, but for a German localisation my writing is not good enough. I can read and speak it perfectly though :-))
Your faq might still be popular with some German users, I won’t deny that but I would like the "official" UBBthreads localisations to be in standard format.
So this is not as much a complaint against your faq, but more like a complaint against the fact it was included in the official package.
I had a look at the other languages today, and after that I must say your faq is still one of the best compared to most other localisations since there is some localisations included in the 6.0 package which should be forbidden by law:-))

Regards,

Ron.

'Standard' FAQ for NON-German users
who can't read/understand my comments...

Good point... I consider making one.
