Looks really great, sure would be nice. []/forum/images/icons/grin.gif[/]
I can think of several ways I would use it at my site. []/forum/images/icons/wink.gif[/]

But wouldnt it be better to use a GPL license photo gallery? There are some really neat ones out there...

I ran across someone who was able to make PhotoPost work with the user/password system of Threads.

Running this now at one of my sites and it works great.

Definately a step in the right direction. But a fully integrated photo/thumbnail gallery would be a great feature. []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

Her site is very nicely done. I wrote to her quite a while ago, but never heard back.

I'm working on a picture post viewer thingie. Will be able to sort according to picture type or by board or by poster or by key words in picture title and description. It is also group based so users can only see pictures from boards they have access to. []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

It's still in the early stages and I'm not sure when I'll have it done. I just have to many things going... lol

Here's the example:

http://www.chattersonline.com/test/index.php?Cat=&paction=pictureview

There is lots left for me to do with this including generating thumbs and being able to track them against the posts...

Nice work JustDave!!!!!

Could this be expanded to function as a "standard" photo gallery?

Would making a seperate category, naming it "Photo Gallery" and have forums acting as subcategries, with the inline image hack to view the pix full size when you click on a thumbnail, work? Can you select which forums the gallery can read, like newspal?

Just some questions that popped into my head, trying to think of how to use this to its full potential.

Thanks for sharing Dave your blood is worth bottling!

Your Welcome []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

I do intend on allowing the option of specific boards to pull from. In this case a users groups are ignored.

I will try to give it as many features any standard photo gallery can have but will be shying away from needing external support such as using the ImgMagic? module I see so many mention. (unless I find alot of time on my hands to learn more about using it... lol) The PHP GD library dropped support for .gif extentions after version 1.3 because of copy rights or patents or something like that. ( more info on that here: http://www.unisys.com/unisys/lzw and http://www.burnallgifs.org )

I will try to make the Picture Post viewer searches as full featured as possible. I'm also looking forward to ubbt 6.0 so I can put the ratings into use on some of the pal boxes too. []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

(side note: Is there any reason ubbthreads doesn't use .png formats exclusively for buttons and icons?)

Sounds good Dave, "views" or "hits" would be nice as well. As far as png goes, I think it's just new and hasn't been used much yet... we use png here in some places and on some of my other sites.

views/hits in the works []/forum/images/icons/wink.gif[/]

will be looking forward to adding ratings too. []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

I also need to add a check to see if the file exists too. This will also be usefull in the attachments list.

what I see on your site is very nice.

however, I'm curious.

isn't the idea to also have a photo gallery of users so that we can view users by picture or as a gallery such as you have displayed for picture posts on your site?

I think that Infopop should seriously consider adding you to the payroll as a subcontractor because you are doing marvellous things to extend the great work that Rick has done.

I've had a number of users on our site thank you since I gave you credit for the recent updates.

thanks,

The picture posts browser/gallery was ment for displaying images that are attached to posts. At this point it wouldn't be to hard to convert this into a "Profile Index" that would do the same but only with members profiles. This would also include search functions to deal with member profiles specificly which has been requested once before. (or more?) []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

well I hope you will consider adding this because to me this is a more obvious use of an image gallery than displaying images attached to posts.

it could be a standard part of the board that would really humanize it a lot.

I'm voting for you as President in the next election.

Actually the majority of Image Gallery scripts I have seen out there are for displaying uploaded images belonging to the users/members or webmaster. I have a very active group of ladies on their own board and they are constantly uploading pictures of their children and anything else going on in their lives. (last time I looked they had 63megs of photos... lol) A photo gallery addon such as this should make their forum lives a bit easier. []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

But, as JoshPet had mentioned and requested before, there is no easy way to search or browse profiles. I would think a full featured search ability would be the most important aspect of this for large sites and this little picture post addon will lend itself quite nicely to do so. (and actualy will be easier as it needs no thumbs generation ability) []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

I'm not sure when I'll have all of the changes and additions done that I want finished before I release this next version though and I would like to have this working with 6.0 before releasing it so it will be after the public beta is released. []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

Yes,
My uses would LOVE the ability to search profiles. They love the user list sort hack.... but also would like to search as we're over 3500 members now.

Thanks again Dave!

I have a fully integrated profile search... I cutomized it for my site but it could be customized to return any profile fields as the defaults... say you wanted username, real name, age, and location as the defaults that the results will be listed with, that can be done easily (extra fields will work, too). You can search any profile field... if there were a "has gallery" option, I'm sure we would add that too.

User Search Feature: Type in "new york" and search for records with "new york" anywhere in the profile... you can also select a field to search within.

What we don't have, is a x # of results per page feature... so if you get like 100 results, it takes a second or two to render the table.

We should almost continue this conversation in a new thread, but Mujammad, I like your profile search... but it wouldnt satisfy me. []/forum/images/icons/wink.gif[/] I want users to select among several fields at the same time, not just one at a time.
Something like what I suggest here. []/forum/images/icons/grin.gif[/]

Yeah, there's always more that could be added... we only spent about 2 hours on that feature so what got done was the basics to satisfy the need. []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/] I'm all for filtered searching if/when it gets in the public release.

Should be easy for them. The guy that hacked mine did a great job. It works flawlessly.

I was wondering... does this gallery pull pictures from posts in ubbthreads also? Or is this a seperate program but using the member information and authing system of ubbthreads?

It's a separate program.... they need to make posts on the photopost side of things.
The membername and login information transfers over, and when they go from Threads to PhotoPost, the cookie recognizes them in PhotoPost and they are already logged in there.

Posts on the PhotoPost side of things DO increase the post count... although you can't search photopost posts from the threads side of things.

Clicking on a username in PhotoPosts brings up the threads profile...and clicking login or register on the photopost side of things brings you to the appropriate place in Threads. It really works well.

If anyone wants to check it out...PM me and I'll send you a URL and login. Warning The photos are adult in nature. []/forum/images/icons/blush.gif[/]

I looked at some working examples listed at their site. I believe at some point I'll have a pal script put together thats on par with them. []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

Cool.

The users like it.. the big complaint is that the new post indicator is now non existant. The "light bulb effect" and new post number for each forum was really a help so people could tell when new pics had been posted in a forum.

The best I was able to do is hack it so that the photopost forums come up by default sorted by date. But they have no idea what they have already viewed or not viewed.

I personally would rather see something more integrated... not so much of a separate product.

But, in a pinch, it could work.
