an Idea for archiving posts.<br />i was thinking about people who are requesting the archiving of old posts. and i have come up with an idea. this i have no use for, and my host is broken. anyways, you could add a column to w3tposts and name it archive or whatever. that could be the field where if archive=1 the post would be archived. everynight you could run a cron script to check for where archive = 1 and it would use lynx and go to the page and save the output to /announce/12.php and in postlist and whatnot the query would go something like if archive = 1 the post goes to the made page.<br /><br />also check this out, THE FIRST W3T POST EVER!<br />http://www.wwwthreads.com/php/showflat.php?&Board=questions&Number=1 and even back then people were requesting an email to forum gateway.<br />

I thought a seperated table should be suitable for archiving posts especially when there were huge archived posts. Since not every user browse the archived posts, putting them in a seperated table maybe w3t_Archives should be better than adding a field in w3t_Posts that might overloading the normal message reading.<br /><br />Post archives should be added by moderators/administrators/whatever. When they decided to add a post to archives, simply duplicated a copy of the posts to another table. Thus, we don't need a crontab since some of the w3t forum owners did not have their own server or crontab privilege.
